" Of this family DANIEL (88) was a very prominent man in Nova<br />

Scotia. In the assessment-roll <strong>of</strong> 1791 he is rated as a first-class farmer,<br />

<strong>and</strong> taxed at the highest rate. In 1806 he was elected Representative to<br />

the Provincial Assembly from the township <strong>of</strong> Horton, <strong>and</strong> again in 181 1.<br />

He was also Justice <strong>of</strong> the Peace <strong>and</strong> Coroner for King's Co. On the<br />

31"* May 1810 he <strong>and</strong> his brother Oliver took out a grant <strong>of</strong> 1950 acres<br />

<strong>of</strong> crown-l<strong>and</strong> at River Philip.<br />

themselves, in marriage, with the well known families <strong>of</strong> Ratchford, Chip-<br />

Jehiel <strong>and</strong> Elizabeth (Martin) De Wolf, married, in Eastport, Me., Samuel<br />

B. Wadsworth, uncle <strong>of</strong> Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. One <strong>of</strong> his<br />

93 daughters, Charlotte, married a V<strong>and</strong>erpoel <strong>of</strong> New York ;<br />

<strong>and</strong><br />

another,<br />

94 Hannah, married Jonathan Bartlett <strong>of</strong> Eastport.<br />
