" Nathan De Wolf, at the time <strong>of</strong> the census <strong>of</strong> 1770, was a success-<br />

ful tiller <strong>of</strong> the soil. His legal practice did not interfere with his agricul-<br />

tural pursuits. He was for many years senior Justice <strong>of</strong> the Peace for<br />

King's County, N. S., having received his commission 13*'' March 1767.<br />

He was Registrar <strong>of</strong> Probate, <strong>and</strong> took an active part in all public affairs.<br />

He died at Horton, 21'' March 1789, aged sixty-nine years.<br />

" His residence was on the east side <strong>of</strong> the main post-road, opposite<br />

to the present (1887) Baptist church, at Wolfville.<br />

"The census-returns <strong>of</strong> 1770 give a detailed account <strong>of</strong> his farm-<br />

produce <strong>and</strong> stock, while the records <strong>of</strong> his native town show that he<br />

owned several tracts <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong> in Connecticut prior to his removal.<br />

"BENJAMIN (26) DeWOLF, son <strong>of</strong> the emigrant Simeon, was<br />

born at Lyme, Conn., 14*'' October 1744, <strong>and</strong> baptized there 25*'' Novem-<br />

ber following. He married, iG**" March 1 769, Rachel Otis <strong>of</strong> Scituate, Mass.<br />
