He was liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> E. W<strong>in</strong>dsor, Conn., <strong>in</strong> 1852.<br />

Oliver <strong>Olmsted</strong> served <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Revolutionary War. In 1775 he was with<br />

Capt. Thorp at Roxbury for two months dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> siege <strong>of</strong> Boston, Mass.<br />

In Jan., 1777, he was a private <strong>in</strong> John Wyllys' Co., <strong>in</strong> Col. Thorp's regiment,<br />

for two months at New London, Conn. He was Capta<strong>in</strong> or conductor <strong>of</strong> teams<br />

for some four years, to late <strong>in</strong> 1781. In that year he was <strong>in</strong> charge <strong>of</strong> twelve<br />

teams from Lebanon, Conn., that accompanied <strong>the</strong> French army to Yorktown,<br />

and was at <strong>the</strong> surrender <strong>of</strong> Lord Cornwallis, and rema<strong>in</strong>ed through <strong>the</strong><br />

w<strong>in</strong>ter.<br />

1840, when he moved to Philadelphia. He was Town Clerk at E. Haddam<br />

cover<strong>in</strong>g a period <strong>of</strong> more than twenty years. He taught a select school<br />

at Hartford for a term <strong>of</strong> years, <strong>the</strong>n return<strong>in</strong>g to E. Haddam settled at a<br />

locality to which he gave <strong>the</strong> classic name, " Mt. Parnassus," which still<br />

bears that name. He was a l<strong>in</strong>eal descendant <strong>of</strong> Myles Standish, his great<br />

grandmo<strong>the</strong>r, Hannah Standish, wife <strong>of</strong> Nathan Foster, <strong>of</strong> Stafford, Conn.,<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g a great granddaughter <strong>of</strong> Capt. Myles Standish. 403, Dorothy; b.<br />

Oct. 15, 1792; d. July 12, 1867; m. Dec. 22, 1813, Michael Chauncey <strong>of</strong><br />

Hartford, Conn.; b. about 1789; d. June 28, 1865.<br />
