(Edgar) STANLEY OLMSTED (<strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Edgar now pr<strong>of</strong>essionaUy<br />

elim<strong>in</strong>ated.) Born Murphy, N. C, Jan. 30, 1877. Graduated Central<br />

H. S., Wash<strong>in</strong>gton, D. C, 1891. One year at Columbia (now George Wash<strong>in</strong>gton)<br />

University. Studied music, pr<strong>of</strong>essionally, (and languages and<br />

aes<strong>the</strong>tics) five years <strong>in</strong> Europe.<br />

After a niunber <strong>of</strong> years as concert pianist and teacher, dur<strong>in</strong>g which time<br />

he held several important musical (teach<strong>in</strong>g) positions, took up residence <strong>in</strong><br />

New York City, pursu<strong>in</strong>g call<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> novelist, magaz<strong>in</strong>e writer and, latterly,<br />

<strong>of</strong> playwright.<br />

Novels: "The Nonchalante" (Henry Holt & Co., 1906), "The EmotionaUst"<br />

(D. Appleton & Co., 1908), "The Boy, <strong>the</strong> Girl, and <strong>the</strong> Symphony"<br />

(forthcom<strong>in</strong>g).<br />

Short stories by this writer have appeared, with more or less regularity,<br />

<strong>in</strong> fifteen or more <strong>America</strong>n magaz<strong>in</strong>es, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Collier's, McCliure's, Lipp<strong>in</strong>cott's,<br />

Pearson's, Smart Set, and Munsey's. A play, "Temper<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

W<strong>in</strong>d," written <strong>in</strong> collaboration with Mr. Penrhyn Stanlaws, <strong>the</strong> well-kiiowli<br />

artist, is scheduled for a near production. Permanent address. Friars Club,<br />
