Service Exam<strong>in</strong>ation. Member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Methodist Church, and connected<br />

with <strong>the</strong> Sunday School at West Newbury; he was a f<strong>in</strong>e scholar, <strong>of</strong> quiet<br />

retir<strong>in</strong>g manners; loved <strong>the</strong> society <strong>of</strong> books and had his life been spared<br />

might have produced someth<strong>in</strong>g well worth do<strong>in</strong>g. In Aug., 1896, he went<br />

to New York to work for <strong>the</strong> National Democratic Committee. He was<br />

taken ill and d. at <strong>the</strong> city hospital, Aug. 10, 1896; buried at W. Newbury,<br />

Vt. 9445, Abner Allyn +. 9446, Frank E.; b. May 11, 1856; d. Mar.<br />

25, 1861.<br />

Isaac Howe <strong>Olmsted</strong> worked <strong>in</strong> Boston and vic<strong>in</strong>ity a few years; learned<br />

<strong>the</strong> chair mak<strong>in</strong>g trade <strong>of</strong> Charles Hard<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>of</strong> Haverhill; came to Newbury<br />

<strong>in</strong> 1828-29, and made chairs <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> shop <strong>of</strong> Israel Prescott. In <strong>the</strong> Same bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nourse neighborhood 1830-33; from 1833 to 1840, on <strong>the</strong> Westgate<br />

place; rem. to South Newbury, 1840, where he built a chair factory and<br />

cont<strong>in</strong>ued <strong>in</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess till his death.<br />
