He was educated <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> common schools and People's CoUege (now Cook<br />

Academy), Montour Falls, N. Y.; attended Starkey Sem<strong>in</strong>ary nearly three<br />

years; worked <strong>in</strong> a store <strong>in</strong> Watk<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> 1865. When eighteen years <strong>of</strong> age he<br />

commenced teach<strong>in</strong>g; taught about a dozen w<strong>in</strong>ters, work<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>the</strong> farm dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> summer. After his marriage he lived <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> towns <strong>of</strong> Tyrone and Wayne<br />

until Dec. 24, 1885, when he moved to Elmira, N. Y., and kept a grocery and<br />

provision store on <strong>the</strong> south-east comer <strong>of</strong> Park Place and Cl<strong>in</strong>ton Streets for<br />

three years. After this he traveled on <strong>the</strong> road for about ten years, sell<strong>in</strong>g<br />

flour, feed and gra<strong>in</strong>. For <strong>the</strong> last ten years he has been, and still is, keep<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a coal and wood yard cor. Seventh and Railroad Ave., Elmira, N. Y. His<br />

hobby is <strong>the</strong> collection <strong>of</strong> old co<strong>in</strong>s, <strong>of</strong> which he has a very large and valuable<br />

cab<strong>in</strong>et.<br />

Elmira College with <strong>the</strong> degree B. S., <strong>in</strong> June, 1903. After her graduation<br />

she taught EngUsh and Ancient and Modern History for two years <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

High School at Cambridge, N. Y. She also taught one year at Saranac<br />

Lake, N. Y. On account <strong>of</strong> ill health she did not teach <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g two<br />

years and only part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> next year. She is now teach<strong>in</strong>g at Spr<strong>in</strong>g Valley,<br />
