from <strong>the</strong> Comedies <strong>of</strong> Marivaux," Macmillan, 1901 ; " Le Malade Imag<strong>in</strong>aire,<br />

by Moliere," G<strong>in</strong>n & Co., 1904; and "Legends, Tales and Poems, by Gustavo<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>. <strong>Olmsted</strong> is President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Olmsted</strong> Family Association.<br />

Ancestry <strong>of</strong> Bula Hubbeij.<br />

I. Richard Hubbell (b. <strong>in</strong> England about 1627; m. 1651, probably at<br />

Guilford, Conn., Elizabeth [dau. <strong>of</strong> John Meigs and gr.-dau. <strong>of</strong><br />

V<strong>in</strong>cent Meigs who was born <strong>in</strong> Devonshire, Eng. <strong>in</strong> 1583, came to<br />

<strong>America</strong> <strong>in</strong> 1637, and died at Hammonassett, Dec. 1, 1658J). Richard<br />

Hubbell married three times and had fifteen children. He died<br />

Oct. 23, 1699. Richard Hubbell came to New England between<br />

1640 and 1645; took <strong>the</strong> oath <strong>of</strong> fidelity <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> New Haven colony,<br />

Mar. 7, 1645; became resident <strong>of</strong> Fairfield, Conn., 1664; is said to<br />

have been active <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Indian wars. Among his children by Elizabeth<br />

Meigs, was:<br />

II. Samuel Hubbell (b. at Guilford, Conn., Nov. 6, 1657; m. as his second<br />

wife, Apr. 17, 1688, Temperance Preston; d. Sept. 18, 1713). He<br />

had ten children. Among o<strong>the</strong>rs by second wife, was:<br />

III. Stephen Hubbell (b. at Stratfield, Conn., Feb. 16, 1695; m. Jan. 10,<br />

1720, Abigail Squire [bap. Nov. 11, 1694; dau. <strong>of</strong> Jonathan Squire];<br />

d. Apr. 20, 1792, aged 97). Among 4 children, was:<br />

IV. Gersham Hubbell (b. about 1725 or 1726; d. " before his fa<strong>the</strong>r ").<br />

Among 8 children, was:<br />

V. Ezbon Hubbell (b. 1757; d. 1820). He was a soldier <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Revolution.<br />

Among 7 children, was:<br />

VI. Eli Hubbell (b. Dec. 29, 1796, at Ballston, N. Y.; m. Nov. 30, 1820,<br />

Mary Huxley; d. at Napoli, N. Y., Oct. 6, 1884). Among 9 children,<br />

was:<br />

VII. Schuyler Philip Hubbell (b. <strong>in</strong> Monroe County, N. Y., Nov. 2, 1821 ; m.<br />

Sept. 4, 1845, Hepzibah Farnsworth, <strong>of</strong> Perrysburgh, N. Y. [b. at<br />

Hawley, Mass., Apr. 28, 1824; d. at Leon, N. Y., Apr. 16, 1886;<br />

dau. <strong>of</strong> David Farnsworth (b. June 5, 1788; d. Apr. 2, 1841) and<br />

gr.-dau. <strong>of</strong> William Farnsworth (b. Dec. 27, 1737; d. 1837, at <strong>the</strong> age<br />

<strong>of</strong> over 99. A soldier <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> French and Indian, and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Revolutionary<br />

Wars]). Schuyler P. Hubbell died Feb. 24, 1899. Among<br />

4 children, was:<br />

VIII. Alv<strong>in</strong> Allace Hubbell (b. May 1, 1846; m. June 26, 1872, Evangel<strong>in</strong>e<br />

Fancher [b. June 22, 1853; dau. <strong>of</strong> Capt. Wm. Fancher (b. June 1,<br />

1823, at German Flats, Herkimer County, N. Y.; served <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Mexican War; d. <strong>in</strong> service <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> War <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Rebellion, Mav 24,<br />

1862) and <strong>of</strong> Lydia Mills (b. Dec. 15, 1832; d. May 9, 1885]). Both<br />

Dr. A. A. Hubbell and Evangel<strong>in</strong>e Fancher Hubbell are members <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Unitarian Church, as is <strong>the</strong>ir only child, Bula Hubbell <strong>Olmsted</strong>.<br />
