Benjam<strong>in</strong> C. <strong>Olmsted</strong> and wife were members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Society <strong>of</strong> Friends,<br />

sometimes called Quakers. He followed farm<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Tompk<strong>in</strong>s County, N. Y.<br />

He was a soldier <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> War <strong>of</strong> 1812, his name be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> list on<br />

<strong>the</strong> beautiful soldiers' monument <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> pubhc square at Le Roy, N. Y., where<br />

he died.<br />

Noah <strong>Olmsted</strong> was commissioned Adjt. <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Herkimer Company Militia.<br />

<strong>in</strong> 1793; Major <strong>in</strong> 1799. He settled <strong>in</strong> Auburn, N. Y., <strong>in</strong> 1795, where he<br />

bought <strong>the</strong> south half <strong>of</strong> Lot No. 38 for £120. He was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> founders.<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 1st Congregational Church, Sept. 17, 1810; School Trustee <strong>in</strong> 1811..<br />

He gave land for <strong>the</strong> North St. Cemetery <strong>in</strong> 1795. He was successively<br />

Adjutant, Lieut., and Major <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> War <strong>of</strong> 1812.<br />
