returned to Ridgefield, and <strong>the</strong>re cont<strong>in</strong>ued to reside and keep house until<br />

his death which occurred <strong>in</strong> 1801, turn<strong>in</strong>g out on every alarm which took<br />

place. Declarant cannot positively swear as to <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> said <strong>Olmsted</strong>'s<br />

resign<strong>in</strong>g his commission. Declarant fur<strong>the</strong>r stated that she is <strong>the</strong> daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Rev. Jonathan IngersoU, who was m<strong>in</strong>ister at Ridgefield for 37 years;<br />

When <strong>the</strong> first wife <strong>of</strong> Nathan <strong>Olmsted</strong> lay dead <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> house, <strong>the</strong> " Cowboys<br />

" drove away five cows and two yoke <strong>of</strong> oxen. As soon as Col. Sheldon<br />

heard <strong>of</strong> it, he marched with thirty men, and recaptured <strong>the</strong>m Capt. Nathan<br />

was Moderator <strong>of</strong> a Town Meet<strong>in</strong>g Jan. 8, 1778, held <strong>in</strong> Ridgefield, Conn., to<br />

approve <strong>the</strong> articles <strong>of</strong> Confederation <strong>of</strong> Congress.<br />

(4117) (Col.) DAVID OLMSTED, b. Nov. 20, 1748; d. July 30, 1805; m.<br />

(1) Oct. 22, 1769, Abigail Ingersoll; b. May 7, 1751; d. Feb. 15, 1815; dau. <strong>of</strong><br />

(Rev.) Jonathan and Dorcas (Moss) Ingersoll, <strong>of</strong> Ridgefield, Conn.; (2) Abiah<br />

Keeler, <strong>of</strong> Norwalk, Conn.<br />

He served <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Revolutionary War; was Capt. and Lieut. Col. <strong>in</strong> 16th<br />

Regt. <strong>of</strong> Horse, Col. Nehemiah Beardsley. He was Lieut. Col. Commandant,<br />

16th Regt. <strong>in</strong> Oct., 1781 ; was Representative <strong>in</strong> Conn. Legislature<br />

fourteen times; was one <strong>of</strong> a Committee to procure cloth<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>the</strong> Cont<strong>in</strong>ental<br />

Army, Nov. 17, 1778. After <strong>the</strong> War, he removed to Manlius,<br />

Onondaga County, N. Y., and <strong>the</strong>nce to Janesville, Wis. He was buried <strong>in</strong><br />

" Corey Cemetery," a small bury<strong>in</strong>g-ground near Otisco, N. Y.<br />
