Edward <strong>Olmsted</strong> was first lieut. <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 16th Regt., U. S. A., and fell <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> battle <strong>of</strong> Williamsburg, Canada. The follow<strong>in</strong>g letter, written to his<br />

<strong>family</strong> previous to <strong>the</strong> battle, is <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>terest:
