Reuben <strong>Olmsted</strong>, <strong>of</strong> Canaan, N. Y., was drafted <strong>in</strong> June, 1775, <strong>in</strong>to<br />

Capt. Bostwick's Co., <strong>in</strong> which Samuel <strong>Olmsted</strong>, his uncle, was ensign, <strong>in</strong> Col..<br />

Whit<strong>in</strong>g's regt. His bro<strong>the</strong>r had previously started for Boston, but Reuben<br />

marched to Ft. Edward, where he performed scout duty for four months.<br />

About <strong>the</strong> 1st <strong>of</strong> May, 1776, he volunteered for six months, under Capt.<br />

Cady, <strong>in</strong> Col. Waterman's regt., go<strong>in</strong>g by way <strong>of</strong> Schenectady to Ft. Stanwix,<br />

near <strong>the</strong> present town <strong>of</strong> Rome, and <strong>the</strong>n to Johnstown, N. Y. About July 1,<br />

1777, he volunteered <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> company <strong>of</strong> Capt. Aaron Kellogg, <strong>in</strong> Col.<br />

Waterman's regt., and marched to Ft. George and vic<strong>in</strong>ity, where he was.<br />
