Daniel <strong>Olmsted</strong> was a soldier <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Rev. War. He enlisted at Simsbury,<br />

Ct., under Capt. Bissell, early <strong>in</strong> 1776, jo<strong>in</strong>ed his regt. at Roxbury, Mass.,<br />

and when Boston was evacuated, March 17, 1776, <strong>the</strong> regt. was ordered to<br />

New York City. He was engaged <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> battle on Long Island, under <strong>the</strong><br />

command <strong>of</strong> Gen. Sullivan, and <strong>the</strong> battles which followed on <strong>the</strong> retreat<br />

from New York City, at White Pla<strong>in</strong>s, and K<strong>in</strong>gsbridge. He was discharged<br />

Jan. 1, 1777, and enlisted aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> 1777, under Capt. Pettibone, <strong>in</strong> Col.<br />

Eno's Cont<strong>in</strong>ental Regt., go<strong>in</strong>g for six months to New Haven and vic<strong>in</strong>ity.<br />

In 1778 he entered <strong>the</strong> service aga<strong>in</strong> for six months, marched to Horse<br />

Neck, where he served his term <strong>in</strong> Col. Mead's Regt. In 1779 he served as<br />

corporal <strong>in</strong> Col. Eno's Regt., for six months, marched to Horse Neck, White<br />

Pla<strong>in</strong>s, Peekskill, and o<strong>the</strong>r places on <strong>the</strong> North river. He was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> detachment<br />

<strong>of</strong> 300 men under Major Healy that made an attack on <strong>the</strong> British<br />

stationed on an island near Morrisania, Westchester Co., <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

repulsed, los<strong>in</strong>g a considerable number <strong>of</strong> men killed, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Major Healy,<br />

and nearly all <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>in</strong> prisoners. In 1780 he enlisted for six months, as<br />

sergt. <strong>in</strong> Capt. Catl<strong>in</strong>'s Co., Col. Arnold's Regt., which was at New Haven,<br />

Conn.<br />

He was a U. S. pensioner. After <strong>the</strong> war he removed to Whitestown<br />

N. Y.<br />
