\'l. Saml'el Cakr (697) born in Jamestown, R. I., Sept. 26,<br />

1756, married Damaris Underw-ood, Aug. 24, 1780, by Rev. Gardiner<br />

Thurston, a Baptist minister in Newport. She was born<br />

in Jamestown, March 7, 17(53, and died in Newport, R. I., Ma}'<br />

18, 1798, and was buried in the famil}' burying ground in<br />

Jamestown. He was drowned in Newport, March 21, 1814. The<br />

following is taken from a Newport paper published at the<br />

time of his death: "Died in this town on Monday evening last,<br />

Samuel Carr, Esq.. aged 58 ^^ears. The circvirnstances of his<br />

death were peculiarl}^ distressing. He had been to visit a sick<br />

uncle, (Capt. John Carr, p. 63) on Washington street, and de-<br />

])arting fr(,m there at 7 o'clock, p. m., when he was blown off<br />

the causeway leading from Washington street to the Long<br />

Wliarf, the wind blowing almost a hurricane. His bod}^ was<br />

found the next morning, and will be interred this da}' in the<br />

famil}' grave^'ard at Jamestown. In the sudden death of this<br />

valuable citizen, his famil}- has to mourn the loss of a kind<br />

and indulgent father; his friends and associates, one whose advice,<br />

.sincerit}' and friendship could be relied upon; society one
