VIII. Judge William Chiles Carr (2957) born near Charlottsville,
Va,, April 15, 1783. He .went to Lexington, K3^. with
his parents when quite a A'oung man, and in 1804, rode on
horseback from there to St. Louis, Mo., where he lived the
remainder of his life. He built the first brick house in St.
Louis. He married Anne Maria Eliot, Nov. 17, 1807. She was
born Aug. 31, 1788, and died in St. Louis, Aug. 11, 1826. She was
a descendant of the historic John Eliot, the apostle to the In-
