them, all the land which I purchased of the town of Newport,<br />

adjoining to the house of my said Thomas Paine hath let unto<br />

Mr. William Brindley, here in Newport, which said house<br />

was purchased of my son Caleb Carr; also I gave unto them<br />

or the longest liver of them, one-ft)urth part of my share of<br />

Gould island, and whatsoever I have formerly given her. Further,<br />

I give and bequeath to my daughter Mercy Paine, my<br />

silver beer bowl, to be kept by her in remembrance of me as<br />

long as she liveth, and at her decease to be disposed of to<br />

whom she pleaseth."<br />
