1853. He moved to Manchester, Mich., in 1833, and took up land
from the gov^ernnient. He also engaged
in mercantile business,
but spent the most of his time in farming. He was a member
of the state legislature in 1810, and held the office cf justice
of the peace for a number of 3^ears. He moved to California
in 1888, and died of an attack of la grippe in East Riverside.

VIII. Elijah Goodkich Cakk (1977) born in New Lebanon,
N. Y., Oct. 14, 1809. He went to Michigan in 1833, with his
brother William, and settled in Manchester, which has since
been his home. He married Mariette Douglass in 1839. She
was born Nov. 12, 1812. Their children are,

VIII. Caroline Carr (1979) l)()rn in New Lebanon, N. Y.,
