\^n. Joiix Carr, son of Arthur Carr, and one of nine child-<br />

ren, was l^orn in the town of Shotta, Lanark Co., Scotland, about<br />

1803. He enlisted in the ami}- at Paisley, when about<br />

18 years of age. Some years after he married Mary Donohue,<br />

of Dublin, Ireland, daughter of Phillip Donohue. In time his<br />

regiment was sent to Malta, then to Gibraltar, and afterwards<br />

to the island of (Grenada, in the West Indies. His wife \vent<br />

with him in all the removals of the troops, and lived successivel}^<br />

at Malta, Gibraltar and in the West Indies. After twenty<br />

3^ears service, he settled down on the island of (rrenada,<br />

where he died in August, 1841. She died in 1839. and ^vas bu-<br />

ried in the military l)urying ground at Ft. Adolj)hus. Th
