Abraham Montague, son of Abraham [14], b. about 1728 in
Essex Co., Va.
His parents died when he was but a youth, and his elder brother
L,ewis was appointed his guardian by the court Nov. 17, 1747. He
)ecame a man of property and of influence in Essex. His name
>ccurs upon a recorded deed for land, April 19, 1757. Recorded
Aug. 21, 1760; May
leeds for land bearing dates of Nov. 21, 1 758 ;
:8, 1 76 1, mention Abraham Montague and Elizabeth his wife. Deeds
or land May 16, 1763, and May 21, 1764, bear the names of Abra-
1am and his brother Lewis Montague. The signature of this Abraham
VIontague appears on the list of resolutions signed by the patriots of
he Northern Neck of Va. in 1765, after the passage of the Stamp
\ct, and the first public association in the land for the resistance of
hat xAct. On the same list are the names of Spencer M. Ball,
Villiam Ball, John Ballintine, Jr., Richard Henry Lee, Samuel,
Charles, Lawrence and John Augustus Washington.
M. previous to 1758, probably as early as 1750, Miss Elizabeth
. He d. early in the year 1778. His will was dated Dec. 17,
[777, proved May 18, 1778, in which he mentions his wife Elizabeth,
lis children in the order as given below, and his brothers-in-law
[ohn Corrie and Philip Montague.
