enthusiastic; and because of his greater experience and reputation, his counsel was sought and
followed. When the wisest heads were needed upon important emergencies, he, oftener, perhaps,
than any other individual, was selected to express the wishes of the town, particularly when the
neighboring towns, or the State, were concerned, as when, 21 September, 1768, he was appointed
upon a committee by the town to meet in Boston to counsel with like committees
