Abel' (-<strong>John</strong>,' Mat<strong>the</strong>w^' <strong>John</strong>'), b. 1750 ; m. Jan. 6, 1774,<br />

Abigail Judd, born June 5, 1752, died April 27, 1829, daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> James and Hannah (Andrews)<br />

Judd. He lived in <strong>the</strong><br />

house formerly occupied by his fa<strong>the</strong>r in Stanley Quarter,<br />

New Britain. He was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> seventy signers <strong>of</strong> an agree-<br />

ment made <strong>the</strong> 3d <strong>of</strong> September, 1774, "to be in readiness<br />

and duly equipped with aims and ammunition to proceed to<br />

Boston for <strong>the</strong> relief <strong>of</strong> our distressed and besieged brethren<br />

<strong>the</strong>re," but from ill health he took no active part in <strong>the</strong> war <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Revolution, which soon followed. Abel died April 27, 1824,<br />

aged 74, and was interred in <strong>the</strong> old cemetery <strong>of</strong> New Britain,<br />

where <strong>the</strong> remains <strong>of</strong> his wife also rest. They<br />

same day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same month, if <strong>the</strong>ir epitaphs<br />

died on <strong>the</strong><br />

can be trusted.<br />

His will was dated April 27, 1814, and proved May 21, 1824,<br />

by which he gave his estate to his wife Abigail, his son <strong>John</strong>,<br />

his daughter Mary Andrews, and his grandchildren Elizur<br />

Claik, Cornelia Andrews, <strong>John</strong> <strong>Clark</strong> Andrews, Mary An-<br />

drews, and Ophelia Webster <strong>Clark</strong>.<br />

Their children were:<br />

i. Samukl, b. Oct. 80, 1774 ; d. Nov. (5, 1774, according<br />

to two separate entries in <strong>Farmington</strong> Town<br />

Records, vol. 17, pp. 431 and 445, but <strong>the</strong> gravestone<br />

reads Dec. 6, 1774, aged G days. Probably<br />

November is correct.<br />

Manly, b. April 1, 1776.<br />

Abigail, b. 1780 : d. May 7, 1785, aged 5.—<br />

Mauy, b. Sept. 25, 1784 (Andrews' Memorial, 234).<br />

<strong>John</strong>, b. March 20, 1787 (Andrews'' New Britain,<br />

253).
