A WEEKLY REVIEW OF THE SERVICE ACTIVITIES OF THE ROTARY CLUB
OF DISTRICT 7120, BRIGHTON, NY
Our 51st Year HOLIDAY ISSUE December 15 & 22, 2008
Reporter: None Photographer: Pete Schwarz Substitute Editor: Pete Schwarz
Holiday Greetings from President Bill
I hope that all of you have enjoyed a
wonderful holiday season with family
and friends. As we begin 2009,
we can’t help but feel a sense of
hope for better times ahead. As
Rotarians, we have the opportunity
to turn that hope into reality, as we
practice the 2008-2009 Rotary International
theme “Make Dreams
Real.”
I think we can all be proud of the first half of this Rotary
year. We have focused on service projects, both new and
old, and close to home and around the world. Just in December,
you fed hungry children and families in the Rochester
area by working at Foodlink, you helped Santa deliver
presents and food baskets to women and families in need at
the YWCA, and in a new project, you helped provide shelter
from the cold and food for Rochester’s poorest when
you endured the cold to raise money at the mall for the Salvation
Army. During the summer, you pitched in to help
make a week at Camp Haccamo special for special children.
You didn’t forget international service either, welcoming
the Istanbul Bayrampasa Rotary Club to Brighton, and partnering
with that club to bring a new photography program
to four impoverished schools in Turkey. Again this year,
you welcomed our exchange student, Camille Adam, to
Brighton, and you helped celebrate her 18 th birthday. You
also laid the groundwork for our annual Milt Mathews District
Governors Elect Hospitality Program in January. Pancake
Day was a huge success, with special commitment
from even our newest members. You played golf and bid
high at the holiday auction to provide the financial support
that the Brighton Rotary Service Foundation needs more
than ever in these difficult times to provide extra backing
for all that you do. We even played a game of “Who Am
I?” to foster fellowship and club service!
Not even the most dedicated of us could have done all this
on our own…and yet as members of Brighton Rotary, we
did all this and much more, in just six months! So many of
you are unsung heroes of Brighton Rotary, whether you
gave rides to Interact students, organized service projects or
shared Rotary fellowship by maintaining perfect attendance.
Thank you all for making the first half of this Rotary year
so memorable…and we really do have much to be happy
about as we celebrate a Happy New Year!
