The Program
For the past 40 years Brighton Rotary Club and District 7120 have home hosted over 461 Governors Elect and their spouses
from 37 countries worldwide. The idea for the program was conceived in 1969 by PDG Milt Matthews, and has been copied by
many other Districts throughout the United States.
Each Governor Elect guest is assigned two Rotary hosts. Their first host meets them at the airport on arrival and takes them to
their home. In the middle of the stay, everyone meets at Brighton Rotary Club’s Exchange Dinner. All the hosts and guests have
the opportunity to get acquainted and share Rotary experiences. When the meeting is over the guests leave with their second host
for the balance of their stay.
Ken Hall’s comparison of
the US and Australia
In US there’s more. When you order a
hamburg the waitress wants to know if
you want it rare, medium, or well done,
with cheese, with onions, mushrooms,
hotsause, etc.
In Australia you order a hamburg and
you get a hamburg.
Tour The George Eastman House and
the International Museum of Photography and Film
“The Eastman House, the world’s oldest photography museum and one of the world’s oldest film archives, opened to the public in
1949. World-renowned for its photograph and motion picture archives, the Museum is also a leader in film preservation and photograph
conservation, educating the top archivists and conservators from around the world.
“Mr. Eastman (1854–1932) built his home at 900 East Avenue between 1902 and 1905. He created a unique urban estate complete
with 10.5 acres of working farm land, formal gardens, greenhouses, stables, barns,
pastures, and a 35,000-square-foot, 50-room Colonial Revival mansion with a fireproof
structure made of reinforced concrete”.
Dear Alumni Hosts and Guests.
I want to thank all of you—hosts and guests—who participated in this year’s program A special
Dave for organizing the hosting, and to the club members who got their club involved.
Thanks to the cadre of Governor Alumni who helped promote the program and, of course,
thanks to this year’s guests for coming and sharing your experiences and culture with us.
Letter from DG John
Dear Rotarians,
This past year, Rotary District 7120 and Rotary International, lost a dear friend and Rotarian,
Milton C. Matthews. Milt was know as Mr. Rotary and was a Charter Member of the Brighton
Rotary Club. Milt served as President of his club and in 1971 –1972 served as District Governor
of District 712, now 7120. Milt conceived this and many other innovated programs. Milt, we’ll
all miss you and thank you for everything you’ve done for Rotary.
