Direction<br />

Manage for a diverse, well-distributed pattern of habitats for wildlife populations and fish<br />

species in cooperation with states and other agencies.<br />

Maintain and/or improve habitat for threatened or endangered species and work toward the<br />

eventual recovery and delisting of species through recovery plans.<br />

Manage for indigenous species. Exotic species capable of reproducing in native habitats will<br />

not be introduced or allowed to invade National Forest System lands.<br />

Cooperate with state and other agencies to maintain wildlife populations within the habitat<br />

capability objectives stated in management area emphasis description.<br />

Within turkey habitat management areas: Manage open road densities to maintain and restore<br />

habitat islands without vehicle intrusion.<br />

Plan and administer disturbance activities in known elk calving, turkey nesting, and raptor<br />

nesting areas so as not to disrupt calving and nesting success.<br />

During transportation planning, road and trail densities will be evaluated, maintaining<br />

emphasized carrying capacity within key habitat areas for wildlife.<br />
