maintaining sustainable ecosystems.<br />

access sites, <strong>and</strong> other recreation opportunities within health <strong>and</strong> safety,<br />

resource protection, cost, <strong>and</strong> maintenance requirements.<br />

<strong>Finding</strong>: Snowmobile trails are legitimate within Management Area 10.2 <strong>of</strong> the Forest<br />

Plan.<br />

• MA 10.2 (pg 3-10) emphasizes l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> resource conditions that provide a wide<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> goods <strong>and</strong> services that include scenic quality, recreation<br />

opportunities, <strong>and</strong> access to those opportunities. Conventional motorized use is<br />

allowed <strong>and</strong> incorporated into construction st<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> design <strong>of</strong> facilities.<br />

The setting for MA 10.2 is described as where recreation use <strong>and</strong>/or lake density<br />

is high, or the potential for recreation use is high. Snowmobile trails <strong>and</strong> lake<br />

access may be provided in this area. The selected alternative is consistent with<br />

this direction.<br />

• D-LR-8 (pg 3-11) Dispersed recreation facilities such as campsites <strong>and</strong> trails<br />

(day use, backpacking, portaging, bicycling, horseback riding, hunter walking,<br />

snowmobile, ATV use, interpretive) may be provided for public use. Other<br />

dispersed recreation opportunities that may not be associated with facilities such<br />
