New Mexico Department of Game and Fish<br />

The mission of the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDGF) is “to<br />

provide and maintain an adequate supply of wildlife and fish within the State by<br />

utilizing a flexible management system that provides <strong>for</strong> their protection,<br />

conservation, regulation, propagation, and <strong>for</strong> their use as public recreation and<br />

food supply” (NMDGF, 2009).<br />

Among the NMDGF’s goals are to:<br />

• Provide a statewide system <strong>for</strong> hunting activities and self-sustaining and hatcherysupported<br />

fisheries that satisfies the participation expectations of New Mexico residents<br />

and takes into consideration hunter safety, quality hunts, high demand areas, guides and<br />

outfitters, quotas and local and financial interests.<br />

• Provide in<strong>for</strong>mation and technical guidance to hunters, anglers, appreciative wildlife<br />

interests, the Director and State Game Commission, and all persons or agencies that<br />

manage lands results in the conservation and enhancement of wildlife habitat and<br />

recovery of indigenous species of threatened or endangered wildlife.<br />

According to the MOU described earlier, NMDGF is a cooperating agency in the current EIS.<br />
