Pine Encroachment (PE)
1,458 acres
The objective is to maintain natural
fuelbreaks by removing all conifers
from existing meadows.
MPB Infested Tree
Removal of green trees currently
infested with MPB. This is a
suppression method which directly
removes MPBs from the forest. This
treatment is included on all pine
stands in the project area.
Sanitation may occur for up to five
consecutive years.
Understory thinning of trees that are
less than 5” dbh to a spacing of 12 x
12 feet.
Maintained Meadow
Sanitation (Sani)
3,655* acres
*The acreage noted here pertains to pine stands
deferred from other treatments. Pine stands
deferred from other treatments include those
already at a low risk for MPB, those which area
important for wildlife cover or nesting habitat, and
those which are too steep and rocky.
