RAIL TRAIL 34 TRAILINg ALONg Hart-Montague Rail Trail he Hart-Montague Rail Trail was Michigan’s first linear state Tpark. With its starting point in downtown Hart, the trail follows the former C&O railroad right-of-way, and heads 22 miles south to Montague. The trail is ideal for bicycling, in-line skating, and jogging or walking. It is wheelchair accessible. Trail users will find many rest stops along the way, including some with tasty treats and great conversation. The trail is open year round, allowing snowmobilers and cross-country skiers to enjoy it too! he Hart Historic Trail is a Twalking/biking introduction to the historical buildings in the city of Hart. The tour begins at the Hart-Montague Rail Trail parking lot on Polk Road. There you will find a map and display panels explaining the historical significance of the two churches, two homes, a one-room school, flour mill, John Gurney Park, a bank and former factory. Several of these buildings are located in the Hart Historic District located on Union St. The District has numerous displays and buildings that appeal to all ages, including a restored log cabin, animated doll collection, furs, and an extensive and unique Native American artifacts collection, a “must see” for history buffs! Tours are Wednesdays thru Saturdays 1 pm – 4 pm or by appointment made through Hart City Hall (231-873-2488). Over Labor Day Weekend, the district hosts an Annual Heritage Days Celebration. with a visit to Randall Schoolhouse, Schaner Feed Mill, Cobmoosa House, Heritage Hall, Sackrider Church and so much more. Located at 570 E. Lincoln Street, (at Union) near downtown Hart, the District is home to many unique and education displays & buildings.
