In the recent past I have been asked, “What exactly does the Membership Committee do?”
Quite simply our objective is to assist Sweetwater Country Club in causing an “environment of
referrals” from the members to reach and then maintain a full membership.
We are extremely close to our Waitlist number of 1100 in our Full Privilege category.
When we began the By Invitation Only sponsor program in February of 2005, our Full
Privilege membership number was around 800, so our partnership with Arnold Palmer Golf has
been a successful one with vigorous growth. The volunteers of this committee plan and host a
variety of events which are designed to heighten the experience for prospective members as well
as welcome and integrate new members into our Club.
Twice a year we host the Be My Guest tournament which provides a full day of fun, food,
and laughs for all participants, We also volunteer to “work” Martinis with the Manager so that
we may meet with members and their guests in a relaxed social setting and answer questions
they may have about membership. We also volunteer to “host” prospective members while they
sample the “Sweetwater experience”, be it playing golf with them, sharing a dinner at the club,
or just chatting with them about why we believe Sweetwater should be their club of choice.
We will also call new members when they join to help them get involved in all aspects of our
Club. The members of the Committee serve for one year, so we are currently asking for new
volunteers for 2007. If the Membership Committee sounds like something that would provide
an outlet for your enthusiasm and desire to have fun at your Club, please call Carol or Beth in
the membership office for more details.

A Message From Al Quiroga
Chairman of the SWCC Board of Governors
We are approaching the end of a year that has been one of the most exciting years in the
history of our Club. Reflecting back on the year, a lot of change has occurred to the clubhouse,
athletic building, tennis courts, swimming pools, and golf courses. Work remains in progress
on the golf courses to complete the work on bunkers, and the continued maintenance on the
greens to keep them in the best playing conditions as possible.
I want to acknowledge our Club General Manager, Gene Miller for his approach in
managing the Club. The activities Gene and his staff have arranged and delivered this year has
been a breath of fresh air. Martinis with the Manager (MWTM) nights have been well received
by the members. MWTM events have both reacquainted current, introduced new members, and
have been viewed as an event where the Club gives something back to the members for their
continued support.
Finally, I know you will join me in expressing my gratitude to your representatives on
the Board of Governors for their contributions, keeping your interests in the forefront, and for
making our Club the best recreational facility in Sugar Land and the Houston area.
Best wishes during the Christmas Holidays, and may the New Year bring you joy and
happiness.

Kid Zone’s Gingerbread House
Decorating Party
Friday, December 1st, 6-9pm
Kids ages 4-10 can start the holiday magic in
the Kid Zone, where they will decorate their
very own gingerbread house to enjoy all season
long. We will provide the ginger bread house,
the candy, and icing. Your kids will use their
imaginations to decorate the confection of
their dreams. We will round out the evening
with holiday crafts and other activities.The
cost is only $25+ (dinner included). Space

SWCC just keeps rolling on... and growing!!!
There are 19 clubs to chose from, so there
is bound to be something that sparks your
interest! They are all “no obligation” clubs. So

and she’ll get you all signed up.
So far, the Bingo Club has hosted its first clubwide
event which was a smashing success! The
Brat Pack Club has had their first official Pub
Crawl and no one ended up crawling home! The
Book Club is reading book number six and has
enjoyed a personal visit by a well-known local
author. The Dance Club has now mastered the
Salsa and the Swing. The Food and Wine Club
has grilled and chilled and broken lots of bread
together... washing it all down with some very
fine wines! The Poker Club is figuring out how
to gamble, bond and have some fun together
without breaking any laws! Scrapbookers are
scrapping away and making plenty of memories.
The Shopping Club has traveled to Rosenberg
and heard some great tips from the fashion
experts. The Travel Club sets sail November
the 30th. And the Theatre Group is looking
forward to a great winter season. It’s not too
late to get involved in any of the previously
mentioned clubs, or choose from the list below

The Sweetwater Women’s Association welcomes
Jeanne Garland of Design Source, to its November
luncheon. Scheduled for Friday, November 10, 2006
at Sweetwater Country Club. Jeanne will be sharing her
talent and expertise about holiday decorating and will

Located at 3644 Hwy 6 @ Settler’s Way, the Design Source showcases a 5,000 square foot
showroom filled with exciting furniture, rugs and accessories and is filled to its capacity right now
with decorations for the holidays. Ms. Garland’s showroom is open to the public and she warmly
welcomes new clients.
About the CASA Christmas Home Tour:
Now in its 15th year, the CASA Christmas Home Tour has become much more than a fundraiser
to assist Child Advocates of Fort Bend (CAFB). It is actually a gift that is twofold. This Fort
Bend holiday tradition is one of the organization’s largest fundraisers of the year, raising nearly 25
percent of the annual operating funds to support CAFB’s programs serving abused and neglected
children. The Tour also offers thousands of Fort Bend residents the opportunity to witness some
truly spectacular sights and sounds of the holiday season.
This year’s Christmas Home Tour is scheduled for December 8 and 9 and will feature beautifully
decorated homes in First Colony and Sienna Plantation.
Guests will be dazzled by some of the most exquisite holiday décor and home designs, entertained
by area talents, treated to homemade cookies and hot apple cider – all by purchasing one ticket.
Tickets will go on sale at local Randall’s, Krogers and businesses starting November 1 - $15 presale;
$20 day of the event.
There will be a special Tour Lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Sweetwater Country Club on
December 8 and 9. You can purchase the Tour Lunch tickets for $15 at Sweetwater Country Club.

For many years there has been a friendly
interclub match played between the ladies of
Sweetwater Country Club and the ladies of
Sugar Creek called the “Sugar Bowl”. However,
the friendly nature of the closely contested
competition has narrowly fallen into the hands
of ladies from Sugar Creek for the last five years
in a row. This year the ladies of Sweetwater are
celebrating their landslide victory that brought
the cup home to Sweetwater. Congratulations

Final Results
The 2006 MGA Men’s Club Championship
is a match play golf championship played over
4 days with every golf ability group competing
for top honors in five different flights of play.
This year’s event met with first round play
postponed due to heavy rains, while rounds 2 &
3 were partially rained on as well. In the end,
flight champions had to endure 36 holes of golf
on the final day to make up for the schedule
delays due to all of the difficult weather. The
following winners are both great golfers and
great athletes that survived the many golf
challenges, elements and the difficult final day
schedule. Congratulations!!!
