Gymnastics Unit
Safety Contract
I ______________________________ agree to abide by the safety rules and regulations
set up in the gymnastics gym. If I disobey or break any of the safety rules I understand
that I will no longer be allowed to participate in the gymnastics unit.
Rules:
• One person on a piece of equipment at a time.
• No running, pushing or other horseplay is allowed anywhere in the gym.
• No swinging on the climbing ropes.
• No diving and sliding on the mats.
• When vaulting, the springboard will be set at the appropriate distance for the
person vaulting.
• Both hands will land on the horse when vaulting.
• A spotter will always be used for handspring vaults.
• Only students who are dressed out are allowed to participate.
• Inverted hangs from the bars without hands is prohibited.
• Chalk up only when it is your turn to be on the bars.
• Safety mats will be in place before working on equipment.
• Adult supervision and permission is needed to work on the equipment.
• Students are expected to stretch out on the mats before they get on the equipment
and to get off the equipment when class is dismissed.
• No gum.
• Shirts need to be tucked in on the bars to avoid the shirt wrapping around the bar.
• No socks on the balance beams.
• If the instructor asks for cooperation regarding individual safety or safety of
others, it is expected that you will abide by what the instructor asks.
