The soap scrubbed the cliffs so clean that they are sparkling white to this day. One day, in the early 1800s, a tidal wave washed a giant baby onto a Cape Cod beach. The baby boy was three fathoms tall! Stormy’s ship carried cargo across the Atlantic. Once, when he came to a narrow passage in the English Channel near the town of Dover, the crew quickly determined that the ship was too wide to fit through the passage. When Stormy turned 12, he was six fathoms tall. He didn’t fit into the school house and was too tall to work in a store. They sent him to Boston because it was a lot bigger than Cape Cod. Sadly, in Boston he found an even sadder sight. While Boston was a bigger city, the houses and buildings were just as small. He walked to Boston Harbor and headed for the largest clipper ship. The captain welcomed him aboard and Stormy started work as a cabin boy. While Stormy loved the sea, the clipper ship was not big enough for him. It nearly tipped over when he stood near the rail. He heard that the plains of the Midwest stretched for miles like a sea of land and he headed west to try his hand at farming. The sailors of Boston Harbor missed Stormy and Stormy missed them and the sea. After a while, he headed back to Boston Harbor. The sailors were so happy to see him that they worked together to build a ship that was big enough for him. Stormy named the ship The Coarser. Find three measurements in today’s newspaper. It will take a month of sundays for him to untie himself!” Stormy was the most popular saylor on board after that! Tell about something that happened to you recently.
