Young area residents
among 4-H honourees

Several youth in Woolwich
and Wellesley townships
were honoured recently
with awards from
the Waterloo 4-H Association.
Jacob Nederand of
Maryhill was named
the outstanding intermediate
member for
2008. Emily Strenzke,
also of Maryhill, and
Zac Williams of Wellesley
shared the award
for outstanding junior
member. And Tarah Joy
Martin of Winterbourne
won the Richard Lichty
memorial award for the

“We did CPR on the fellow;
that was started by
the time the rescue truck
arrived on the scene,”
said Dennis Frey, Floradale
district chief with

“The weather had
changed. Started getting
cold, anyways, after the
rain,” he said of conditions
at the time.
Although temperatures
dropped Thursday
morning, following a
wet and mild night, and
ice began to form, at the
time of the collision the
roads were not icy, said
Sgt. Fred Gregory of the
police traffi c branch.
“It was that type of
morning where the roads
were getting worse as we
got there; the road conditions
at the time were not
as severe as they were,
say, two hours later.”
Police ruled out alcohol
as a factor, but are
still trying to determine

please, pay attention and
recognize that they may
be out using the roadways,”

about farming anymore.
“4-H has gone so far beyond
agriculture. We’re
all about health, environment,
life skills and
agriculture. That’s what
4-H is.”
