PLASTICITY 2003
Quebec City
First Circular, Dated July 24, 2002
The Tenth International Symposium will be held in beautiful Quebec City ( 2 hours
north of Montreal, Canada), from July 7-11, 2003. This Symposium series is the prime
forum for plasticity research dissemination as usually more than 250 scientists from
around the world participate in this conference. The symposium will focus on
computational plasticity, plasticity of emerging materials (nanocrystalline solids, thin
films, biomaterials, polymers etc.) and micromechanics of plastic deformation and
texture evolution, including materials science aspects, and elastic-plastic damage
mechanics. However, presentations in any area of plasticity will be welcomed,
especially experimental and materials science studies related to plastic deformation.
Thus topics of interest include plastic and viscoplastic behaviors of single crystals and
polycrystalline metals, nanocrystalline metals, thin films, biomaterials, ceramics, ice,
rocks and soils, composite materials and polymers, as well as plasticity aspects of
damage, failure and fracture mechanics. Symposium presentations must be original
unpublished research related to experimental, numerical or theoretical analyses of the
inelastic behavior of solids subjected to quasi-static, dynamic or cyclic thermomechanical
loading.
A three page summary/compact paper will be printed in a proceedings book and
available at the symposium for quick dissemination of your research. The full-length
papers are expected to be published in the International Journal of Plasticity after the
standard peer review process. Please see the internet. The full-length papers should be
submitted for publication consideration anytime from six months before to six months
after the symposium. We expect this symposium to be as outstanding, both technically
and socially, as its predecessors, including the one in Whistler (July 2000) and Aruba
(Jan. 2002). We believe your participation will definitely contribute towards this goal.
Presentations and Registration fee
The presentations will include invited lecture and invited presentations. The invited
lecture of 40 minutes duration is expected to give an overview of the subject with
almost 20 minutes being devoted to the results of other researchers. Invited
presentations will be allotted 20 minutes. All presentations, including invited lectures,
must contain a significant amount of unpublished results. A session of two hours will
include one lecture and four invited talks. Overhead and computer projectors will be
available for your presentation.
Please send a line indicating your interest as soon as possible, preferably by return email
at khan@umbc.edu. Kindly follow the deadlines given below. I am personally
looking forward to welcoming you in Quebec City. If your research interests have
changed and you are not interested in receiving the invitation for this symposium series,
please drop a line using e-mail. We will delete your address from our mailing list.
