Topic
More and more, optimization methods are penetrating the design process in industrial
applications resulting in new aspects and demands which have to be discussed and
answered by scientists working in this field. Topics which have been identified as
crucial for the design process but which have not been discussed sufficiently, include -
but are not limited to- sensitivity analysis of elastic multibody systems, automatic
differentiation of multidisciplinary design problems, topology optimization of
mechanisms, multicriteria optimization and identification methods, application of
evolutionary optimization to engineering problems, and new scalar optimization
algorithms. Thus, we are convinced that there is an urgent need to meet and to discuss
recent developments and advances in the stimulating environment of an EUROMECH
Colloquium. It will be one of the major goals of the colloquium to attract both scientists
from academic institutions and people from industries to report on their experience with
computer-aided optimization of mechanical systems in a research oriented or an
industrial environment as well as on the major bottlenecks and shortcomings in theory,
concept and implementation from their point of view.
The purpose of the proposed colloquium will be, to provide a basis for discussion and
exchange of new concepts and ideas to scientists from all over Europe. Emphasis will
also be placed on sharing algorithms and concepts with young researchers who only
recently entered the stage of mechanical system design optimization.
