Participated in a number of national and international research projects as a member of the following scientific

Legal Sciences, University of Trent (from 1988 to 1994); Institute of International and Comparative Law, University of
Triest (from 1994 to 1997; Department of Legal Sciences, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (from 1997).
Participated in the 1996 Session of the Hague Academy Centre for Studies and Research in International Law and
International Relations, devoted to “State succession: Codification tested against the facts”, English section directed by
Professor Martti Koskenniemi.
From 2004, Member of the Editorial Committee of The Italian Yearbook of International Law.
Member of the Italian Society of International Law, the American Society of International Law and the International
Law Association.
Fields of interest include: the subjects of international law; State succession; the law of the sea; the legal regulation of
the use of force and the law of armed conflict; State responsibility; the protection of cultural property; nuclear law, with
special reference to liability for nuclear damage.
Experience in the practice of international Law
1992-97 Member of the Italian Delegation to the IAEA Standing Committee on Liability for Nuclear Damage.
1996 During the Italian Chairmanship of the European Union, took part, as expert for the Italian Ministry for
Foreign Affairs, in the negotiations relating to the participation of the European Union, and its Member
States, in the Korean Energy Development Organization (KEDO).
1997 Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Diplomatic Conference to adopt a Protocol to Amend the
Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage and to adopt a Convention on Supplementary
Funding, convened by the IAEA (Vienna, 8-12 September 1997).
2004-10 IAEA Consultant and Scientific Advisor to the IAEA International Expert Group on Nuclear Liability
(INLEX).
