Creekview Principal—Joe LaPuma
Good afternoon and I hope everyone had a great weekend! I am still thrilled over my recent experiences
this past weekend. Please indulge me while I share a bit about my weekend in San Antonio at
this year's Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. What a treat it was to be a part of
our A Cappella Choir as they performed at TMEA on Friday. I could not be more proud of a group of
students and teachers. Not only were our students focused and prepared, but they also behaved so
very well! A few of our students even wrote and left thank you notes for the housekeepers who
cleaned their hotel rooms!! The Creekview Choral department has a rich tradition of high
achievement and added to that tradition and reputation with their performance this past Friday at
the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. In front of a large crowd of educators, parents, and other
students from across the United States, the A Cappella delivered with six beautiful pieces. I would
like to thank Tara Sikon, our choral director, and Brian Murray our associate director, for the efforts
and commitment that each of you have made while working with our outstanding students! I would
also like to thank our talented students for their efforts. Hard work and commitment (and of course
talent) can sound so amazingly beautiful!
Our A Cappella Choir is a shining star in our district and a great example of the outstanding
opportunities that are provided to the students in C-FB ISD and at Creekview High School!
In addition to the honor of having our A Cappella Choir performing at TMEA, we also had the
following students perform as members of an all-state band, women’s choir or orchestra:
Samantha Guu- Four year all-state in violin; performed with the All-State Symphony Orchestra
Madison Goad- All-State 5A Texas Concert Band-All-State Bassoon
Mackie Thomas-All State 4A Symphonic Band- All-State Bassoon
Nathan Presson-All State 4A Symphonic Band-All State Baritone Saxophone
Damian Holmes- All State 4A Symphonic Band-All State Tenor Trombone
Amanda Altenhofen-All State Women’s Choir
The month of February also has our spring sports kicking off as well as Creekview students
representing our school at the state wrestling tournament, state academic decathlon, and state DECA
competition.
I would also like to take a moment to thank our parents who were in San Antonio supporting and
chaperoning our students as well as the many parents of the Ac Dec team who were here this
morning as we celebrated their send off to state! Great things are going on at Creekview and
C-FB ISD as we strive for high achievement for all students!
Sincerely,
Principal LaPuma
Congratulations are in order for our students, staff, and administration!
the entries were judged and the school level winners were sent to C-FB PTA Council for the District Level Reflections
A sobering thought for any parent, what if our daughters/sons did this......?
www.cnn.com/2013/02/04/health/synthetic-marijuana-irptShare
Feb 5, 2013 – Houston-area teenager Emily Bauer was a normal 16-year-old "full of light and
laughter" until her family says she had serious side effects from smoking synthetic marijuana.
Her family said the drug that landed the Cypress, Texas, teenager, then 16, in the ICU two weeks
earlier wasn't bought from a dealer or offered to her at a party. It was a form of synthetic
weed packaged as "potpourri" that she and friends bought at a gas station.
Best known by the street names "Spice" or "K2," fake weed is an herbal mixture sprayed with
chemicals that's meant to create a high similar to smoking marijuana, according to the National
Institute on Drug Abuse. Advertised as a "legal" alternative to weed, it's often sold as incense or
potpourri and in most states, it's anything but legal.
Synthetic marijuana was linked to 11,406 drug-related emergency department visits in 2010,
according to a first-of-its-kind report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration. This is when it first started showing up on health providers' radar, as the
Drug Abuse Warning Network detected a measurable number of emergency visits.
Creekview Principal—Joe LaPuma
Todavía me siento emocionado
Quiero agradecer a Tara Sikon, nuestra directora
Mackie Thomas -4A Banda Sinfónica Estatal – All-State Bassoon
Nathan Presson – 4A Banda Sinfónica Estatal – All-State Baritone Saxophone
Damian Holmes – 4A Banda Sinfónica Estatal – All-State Tenor Trombone
Cordialmente,
LaPuma, Director
