6.6 RESULTS OF THE STAKEHOLDERS SURVEY<br />

The results are pres<strong>en</strong>ted in sections. The first section describes how the stakeholders<br />

understood the chall<strong>en</strong>ges faced by the GP in terms of attraction, recruitm<strong>en</strong>t and<br />

ret<strong>en</strong>tion. The second section describes the rating of the policies and help to pick the<br />

best one according to the multi-criteria analysis. The last sections detail the policies<br />

most likely to be implem<strong>en</strong>ted and the new policy options according to the<br />

stakeholders.<br />

The results of the sections are pres<strong>en</strong>ted globally for all the stakeholders, indep<strong>en</strong>d<strong>en</strong>tly<br />

of their groups, age groups and g<strong>en</strong>ders. The next chapter on the prefer<strong>en</strong>ces will make<br />

some distinctions betwe<strong>en</strong> differ<strong>en</strong>t groups.<br />

6.6.1 Which chall<strong>en</strong>ges does face G<strong>en</strong>eral Practice in Belgium?<br />

Overall, the interviewees found that specialty medicine faces a more favorable situation<br />

than g<strong>en</strong>eral practice except for the work interest (Table 14: The stakeholders’<br />

perception of the specialty medicine: perc<strong>en</strong>tage of those who find that the situation is<br />

better in specialty medicine. There is a wide cons<strong>en</strong>sus among stakeholders that<br />

specialty medicine faces a more favorable situation than g<strong>en</strong>eral practice regarding<br />

attraction after 7 years (93%) and remuneration of the working hours (94%). For most<br />

interviewees (79%), the likelihood to stay in the profession is better in specialty<br />

medicine than in g<strong>en</strong>eral practice. Three out of five stakeholders (62%) stated that the<br />

working conditions in specialty medicine were better than in g<strong>en</strong>eral practice.<br />

According to half of the stakeholders, specialty medicine and g<strong>en</strong>eral practice face a<br />

similar situation for the balance betwe<strong>en</strong> work and quality of life (51%). Finally, the<br />

interest of the work is lower in specialty medicine than in g<strong>en</strong>eral practice (34%).<br />

There were few differ<strong>en</strong>ces betwe<strong>en</strong> Dutch- and Fr<strong>en</strong>ch-speaking interviewees (Table<br />

15) and no test was statistically significant (highest P value for the remuneration of the<br />

working hours (p=0.06)
