Comments. Much like the prior <strong>certification</strong> criterion, many commenters signaled<br />

their support for this <strong>certification</strong> criterion. Other commenters raised the same points<br />

related to this <strong>certification</strong> criterion as they did for the medication list <strong>certification</strong><br />

criterion.<br />

Response. We believe our responses to the problem list and medication list<br />

<strong>certification</strong> criteria are applicable to these repeated comments.<br />

Comments. Many commenters suggested that non-medication allergies be added<br />

to this <strong>certification</strong> criterion. A few commenters stated that it could jeopardize patient<br />

safety if not all allergens were included in Certified EHR Technology.<br />

Response. Patient safety is one <strong>of</strong> HHS’s top priorities. At the present time, the<br />

<strong>final</strong> meaningful use objective and measure focus on medication allergies. Accordingly,<br />

we have adopted a <strong>certification</strong> criterion to support this objective and measure. We<br />

would like to reiterate, however, that a <strong>certification</strong> criterion sets the floor not the ceiling<br />

for the capabilities Certified EHR Technology must include. We encourage Complete
