Comments. Two commenters asked whether this requirement refers to the<br />

creation <strong>of</strong> a list for the internal purposes <strong>of</strong> the eligible pr<strong>of</strong>essional and his/her staff<br />

only and does not refer to or require electronic communication to a patient.<br />

Response. Yes, we expect Certified EHR Technology to be capable <strong>of</strong> generating<br />

a patient reminder list for an eligible pr<strong>of</strong>essional and his/her staff. The meaningful use<br />

measure establishes the requirement for an eligible pr<strong>of</strong>essional to take action <strong>onc</strong>e the<br />

reminder list has been generated.<br />

Comments. Two commenters suggested that the set <strong>of</strong> variables contained in the<br />

demographic information for the patient lists note the preferred language <strong>of</strong> the patient.<br />

Response. Preferred language is included in demographics and we do not believe<br />

that it is necessary to expressly call it out as part <strong>of</strong> this <strong>certification</strong> criterion.<br />

(1) Implement rules. Implement automated, electronic clinical<br />

decision support rules (in addition to drug-drug and drugallergy<br />

contraindication checking) according to specialty or<br />

clinical priorities that use demographic data, specific patient<br />

diagnoses, conditions, diagnostic test results and/or patient<br />

medication list.<br />

(2) Alerts. Automatically and electronically generate and<br />

indicate in real-time, alerts and care suggestions based upon<br />

clinical decision support rules and evidence grade.<br />

(3) Alert statistics. Automatically and electronically track,<br />

record, and generate reports on the number <strong>of</strong> alerts responded<br />

to by a user.<br />
