L<strong>and</strong>scape occupancy<br />

In a response to the disappearance <strong>of</strong> <strong>tigers</strong> on the plantation, a rapid occupancy<br />

survey <strong>of</strong> the entire plantation <strong>and</strong> logg<strong>in</strong>g concession l<strong>and</strong>scape was conducted <strong>in</strong><br />

2005, with one <strong>of</strong> the objectives be<strong>in</strong>g to determ<strong>in</strong>e whether the orig<strong>in</strong>al plantation<br />

<strong>tigers</strong> had moved or disappeared. <strong>The</strong> results revealed no tiger evidence with<strong>in</strong> the<br />

plantation concession <strong>and</strong> none <strong>of</strong> the <strong>tigers</strong> recorded <strong>in</strong> 2001-4 were photographed<br />

<strong>in</strong> the forest concession 1<br />

. A further three <strong>in</strong>dividuals were photographed <strong>and</strong><br />

occupancy <strong>of</strong> the l<strong>and</strong>scape was estimated at 9% (+/- 5%). Mapp<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> tiger sign<br />

encounters revealed two areas <strong>of</strong> the forest concession where <strong>tigers</strong> were still<br />

detected, but no sign <strong>of</strong> <strong>tigers</strong> occurred near the plantation (Figure 23).<br />

In 2006 a repeat <strong>of</strong> the occupancy survey revealed one <strong>of</strong> the orig<strong>in</strong>al forest concession <strong>tigers</strong>, Mo,<br />

still surviv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the east <strong>of</strong> the forest concession<br />
