Species survival with<strong>in</strong> the plantation concession<br />

Species diversity with<strong>in</strong> the plantation concession<br />

Species photographed with<strong>in</strong> the plantation concession (ie all l<strong>and</strong> under control <strong>of</strong><br />

the company, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g unplanted forest <strong>and</strong> scrub areas), together with species<br />

sighted opportunistically,, are listed <strong>and</strong> their <strong>conservation</strong> status given <strong>in</strong> Table 6. <strong>The</strong><br />

results show that 34 species, or 90% <strong>of</strong> the 38 species recorded <strong>in</strong> the l<strong>and</strong>scape as<br />

a whole, were also recorded with<strong>in</strong> the plantation concession. Key species absent<br />

from the plantation concession <strong>in</strong>cluded the clouded leopard, b<strong>and</strong>ed <strong>palm</strong> civet,<br />

fish<strong>in</strong>g cat, Malay badger, siamang <strong>and</strong> elephant, although <strong>of</strong> these only clouded<br />

leopards were recorded with any frequency <strong>in</strong> the l<strong>and</strong>scape as a whole. Furthermore,<br />

all <strong>of</strong> these species were found with<strong>in</strong> five kilometres <strong>of</strong> the plantation border with the<br />

exception <strong>of</strong> the elephant, which was found on the opposite border about 25 km away.<br />
