Habitat def<strong>in</strong>itions used <strong>in</strong> the analysis<br />
Species survival <strong>in</strong> <strong>and</strong> around <strong>oil</strong> <strong>palm</strong> was <strong>in</strong>vestigated at three levels:<br />
1. Human dom<strong>in</strong>ated l<strong>and</strong>scape – def<strong>in</strong>ed as the whole area cover<strong>in</strong>g the work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>oil</strong><br />
<strong>palm</strong> plantation <strong>and</strong> logg<strong>in</strong>g concession (areas 1,2 <strong>and</strong> 3 on map).<br />
2. Oil <strong>palm</strong> concession – def<strong>in</strong>ed as all habitat with<strong>in</strong> the plantation concession<br />
boundary i.e. all l<strong>and</strong> directly under control <strong>of</strong> the plantation company. This<br />
<strong>in</strong>cluded the <strong>oil</strong> <strong>palm</strong> crop but also unplanted areas that primarily comprised<br />
heavily degraded forest <strong>and</strong> clear-felled regenerat<strong>in</strong>g habitat (areas 2 <strong>and</strong> 3 on map).<br />
3. Oil <strong>palm</strong> crop – areas actually planted with <strong>oil</strong> <strong>palm</strong> monoculture (area 3 on map).<br />
