Melissa Marie Chamberlin, daughter of Michael and<br />

Wendy Chamberlin of <strong>Perrysburg</strong>, and Cody Edward<br />

Tyler, son of Laurie Sax Tyler of North Syracuse, New<br />

York, announce <strong>the</strong>ir engagement. Melissa is <strong>the</strong> granddaughter<br />

Young professionals sought<br />

for Rotary international exchange<br />

The Rotary Clubs of Northwest<br />

Ohio are seeking young<br />

professionals to participate in<br />

a cultural exchange with India<br />

for four weeks, starting January<br />

15, 2013.<br />

The purposes of Group<br />

Study Exchange (GSE), a program<br />

of The Rotary Foundation,<br />

are to promote<br />

international understanding<br />

and goodwill through personto-person<br />

contact, and to provide<br />

international professional<br />

development opportunities for<br />

<strong>the</strong> participants.<br />

While abroad, five GSE<br />

team members led <strong>by</strong> a Rotarian<br />

will live with Indian families.<br />

They will have <strong>the</strong><br />

opportunity to meet <strong>the</strong>ir professional<br />

counterparts in India,<br />

and to experience <strong>the</strong> local culture.<br />

They will tour <strong>the</strong> Rotary<br />

district of <strong>the</strong>ir hosts, which<br />

could include moving to a new<br />

location every several days.<br />

The Rotary Foundation<br />

provides round-trip air travel.<br />

engaged to be married<br />

Lisa Ann Ingram, daughter of Nancy Ingram of Toledo,<br />

and Ronald Ingram of Dearing, Georgia, and Tyler Jacob<br />

Zollars, son of David and Judy Zollars of <strong>Perrysburg</strong>, announce<br />

Lisa is a 2000 graduate of Cardinal Stritch High School.<br />

She graduated from <strong>the</strong> University of Findlay in 2004,<br />

with a bachelor of science degree in equestrian studies, and<br />

received a master of business administration degree from<br />

UF in 2005. She is employed at Bowling Green State University<br />

as a marketing coordinator.<br />

Tyler is a 2003 graduate of <strong>Perrysburg</strong> High School,<br />

and a 2007 graduate of Bowling Green State University,<br />

Remaley selected to compete<br />

in Queen of Diamonds Showcase<br />

Tylah Remaley, an entering<br />

freshman at <strong>Perrysburg</strong><br />

High School, was recently selected<br />

to compete in <strong>the</strong><br />

Queen of Diamonds Showcase<br />

South (QDSS) at<br />

Winthrop University.<br />

This is <strong>the</strong> sixth event for<br />

<strong>the</strong> Queen of Diamonds in <strong>the</strong><br />

South. The QDSS is part of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Queen of Diamond’s<br />

Showcase events which are<br />

<strong>the</strong> largest fastpitch softball<br />

showcases of its kind in <strong>the</strong><br />

United States.<br />

The event, held August<br />

24-25, attracts athletes from<br />

more than 30 states and two<br />

Canadian Provinces. Its sister<br />

showcase, <strong>the</strong> Queen of Diamonds<br />

North, is in its 18th<br />

season. Both events have<br />

nearly 2,000 applicants in<br />

which approximately 264 athletes<br />

are selected.<br />

“Cub<strong>by</strong>.”<br />

From 1994 until his death<br />

in 2005, Cub<strong>by</strong> was a faithful<br />

companion and service dog to<br />

Breck Davis, <strong>the</strong> middle son<br />

of Bill and Pam Davis. Breck<br />

suffered a spinal cord injury<br />

at age 20 when he was hit <strong>by</strong><br />

a car while riding his bicycle<br />

on Roachton Road.<br />

Now 40, Breck recently<br />

marked ano<strong>the</strong>r milestone in<br />

<strong>the</strong> long road of recuperation<br />

–he received his Ph.D. in curriculum<br />

and instruction from<br />

<strong>the</strong> University of Toledo. Dr.<br />

Davis looks back at Cub<strong>by</strong> as<br />

one of <strong>the</strong> key ingredients in<br />

his successful response to <strong>the</strong><br />

challenges of becoming a C-5<br />

quadriplegic.<br />

“Cub helped me get on<br />

with my life,” said Dr. Davis.<br />

“He made me think outside of<br />

myself. Suddenly I had <strong>the</strong><br />

responsibility of caring for<br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r living thing. I could<br />

take him wherever. Cub always<br />

kept me laughing with<br />

his silly antics. ”<br />

After his injury in 1993,<br />

Dr. Davis spent six months in<br />

<strong>the</strong> hospital, including extensive<br />

rehabilitation at Craig<br />

Hospital in Denver. The accident<br />

had occurred on summer<br />

break after he had completed<br />

his second year at West Vir-<br />

“Scholarship recipients<br />

were selected on <strong>the</strong> basis of<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir achievement in German<br />

language studies and <strong>the</strong>ir enthusiasm<br />

for learning about<br />

German culture,” said<br />

Christina Renz.<br />

High school students must<br />

have taken an academic or<br />

college preparatory course of<br />

study and must have attained<br />

a grade point average of at<br />

least 3.0 on a 4.0-point system.<br />

Students must have<br />

completed at least three years<br />

of German language study<br />

and must have participated in<br />

at least one school sponsored<br />

organization, such as: National<br />

Honor Society, Student<br />

Council, athletic teams or<br />

school clubs.<br />

“The GAF Society is<br />

and culture. It’s a natural extension<br />

Kayleigh Smith is a graduate<br />

of Woodward High<br />

School. She studied German<br />

for four years under teacher<br />

Sharon Turner. While at<br />

Woodward, Kayleigh served<br />

as president of German Club.<br />

Kayleigh’s grandmo<strong>the</strong>r<br />

(Oma) was born in Germany,<br />

so she frequently speaks German<br />

with her, and <strong>the</strong> family<br />

celebrates many holidays<br />

using German traditions that<br />

her Oma practiced. In <strong>the</strong> future,<br />

Kayleigh plans to travel<br />

to Germany to see where her<br />

Oma was born, and meet relatives<br />

who still live <strong>the</strong>re.<br />

This fall, Kayleigh will continue<br />

her education at <strong>the</strong><br />

University of Toledo in preveterinarian<br />

science, before<br />

continuing to veterinary<br />

school at The Ohio State<br />

University. She hopes to<br />

study in Germany during her<br />

college experience.<br />

Kayleigh is <strong>the</strong> daughter of<br />

Dan and Laurie Smith.<br />

Elise Lohmann is a graduate<br />

of Whitmer High<br />

School. She studied German<br />

for three years under teacher<br />

Krista Balwinski. During her<br />

time at Whitmer, Elise was<br />

active in <strong>the</strong> German Honorary<br />

Society and German<br />

Club. Elise still has many<br />

family members in Germany,<br />

and plans to visit soon to<br />

meet <strong>the</strong>m and see where her<br />

great-grandfa<strong>the</strong>r was born.<br />

Growing up, Elise was raised<br />

with many German traditions,<br />

and her family attends<br />

<strong>the</strong> Schwaben Verein Waldfest<br />

and <strong>the</strong> GAF each summer,<br />

where she has<br />

volunteered at <strong>the</strong> GAF for<br />

<strong>the</strong> past two years. This fall,<br />

Elise will continue her education<br />

at <strong>the</strong> University of<br />

Toledo, pursuing a degree in<br />

Chemical Engineering. She<br />

is <strong>the</strong> daughter of Brian and<br />

Beth Lohmann.<br />

Joshua Brann is a graduate<br />

of Bowsher High School.<br />

He studied German for four<br />

years under teacher Anthony<br />

ginia Wesleyan University.<br />

Then in <strong>the</strong> fall of 1994, he<br />

enrolled at Wright State University,<br />

where he earned a<br />

bachelor’s degree in psychology<br />

in 1999 and, in 2003, a<br />

master’s of education with a<br />

concentration in student affairs.<br />

Dodge. Josh has volunteered<br />

at several GAF events at Oak<br />

Shade Grove during his high<br />

school career. His love for<br />

German drives him to use <strong>the</strong><br />

language with friends and<br />

family from Germany as<br />

often as possible. Josh will attend<br />

<strong>the</strong> University of Toledo<br />

this fall to pursue a degree in<br />

Civil Engineering. He is <strong>the</strong><br />

son of William Jr. and Kory<br />

Brann.<br />
