•CAROLYN MARIEA
Carolyn W. Mariea died
March 19, 2013. She was the
daughter of the late Harold
and Sylvia Williams. She
married Harold Mariea on
June 29, 1957.
Ms. Mariea graduated first
in her class from Whitney
High School. During her high
school years, she worked at
Enterprise Sheet Metal where
she met Harold. She later
worked at LaSalle’s and
Tiedtke’s.
She worked at Blade Printing
until joining her husband
in Germany for two years and
working for the U.S. Government.
When they returned
home, Mrs. Mariea worked
for U.S. Standard Sign.
After a 14-year break for
family time, she worked at
Executone as office manager
and accountant. When her
husband went into his own
business in 1981 as president
and owner of Waterville Sheet
Metal, Mrs. Mariea ran the office
as vice president of administration
and also did all of
the accounting work. Mr. and
Mrs. Mariea both retired
when he sold the business in
December of 1997.
Over the years, she took
many advanced courses and
classes of interest such as
cake decorating, and she particularly
enjoyed cooking, for
which she was known for her
delicious meals, homemade
breads, and entertaining. Always
interested in her daughters
school activities, she was
room mother, PTO officer,
and served on the executive
board of the Perrysburg Athletic
Boosters. She attended
every game, meet, or event in
which her daughters took part,
both home and across the
country.
She was instrumental in
starting Sheet Metal Local 6
Auxiliary and establishing
their local chapter, acting as
its first president. She was involved
in many community
activities including Red Cross
blood bank, church activities,
and a Brownie and Girl Scout
leader. She was on the Bowling
Green State University’s
parents advisory board and
the originator of parents fact
line.
She is survived by her husband,
Harold; daughter,
Michele Mariea Martin and
her husband, Neal, and children,
Melissa, and Derek, and
his wife Erin; daughter
Cherise Mariea McCoy and
her husband, Aaron, and their
two sons, Connor and Gavin;
also her brother, Paul (Judy)
Williams; brother-in-law,
Richard (Walling) Mariea;
sister-in-law, Nancy Davidson,
and many nieces and
nephews.
Memorial services and
graveside were held privately
with the family on March 23,
with the assistance of Coyle
Funeral Home.

of St. Rose Parish and bereavement

•BERTHA THOMAS
Bertha M. Thomas, 91, a
lifelong resident of Perrysburg,
died Saturday, March
30, 2013, at the Manor of
Perrysburg. She was born
July 4, 1921, to Elmer and
Josephine (Borck) Heilman.
She graduated from Perrysburg
High School in 1939.
She attended Di-Salle’s College
in Toledo, then moved to
Washington D.C., for a short
time where she worked at the
Library of Congress.
She married Bob Thomas
on April 27, 1942. They enjoyed
traveling together
throughout the country on
road trips, especially to
Florida and the Tetons in
Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
They spent many hours sailing
together on the Maumee
River.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
were members of the Perrysburg
Boat Club. She was
honored to be the first
woman secretary/treasurer
for the Perrysburg Boat Club.
Nearly five years ago,
Mrs. Thomas moved to The
Manor of Perrysburg, where
she enjoyed making new
friends and participating in
many activities.
She is survived by her
children, Steven (Sue Ann)
Thomas of Bowling Green,
Ohio, David (Priscilla)
Thomas of Perrysburg, and
Kathy (Richard) Bedee of
Perrysburg; grandchildren,
Shanda Thomas, Bill (Tangy)
Thomas, Mike (Jessica)

Bedee, Brett Thomas, and
Todd Kish; great-grandchildren,
Tyler, Lyndsey, Natalie,
Landon, and Benjamin. She
was preceded in death by her
husband of 66 years, Bob, in
2008. She also was preceded
in death by her brother-inlaw,
Gordon Thomas.
A Scripture Service was
held Sunday, April 7, in the
Witzler-Shank Funeral
Home, Perrysburg, Prayers
began Monday, April 8, in
the funeral home, followed
by funeral services at St.
Rose Church, Perrysburg,
Ohio. Burial was in Fort
Meigs Union Cemetery.

Zelma Snyder, 97, of
Sugar Ridge, died Saturday
March 30, 2013.
She was born in Jerry
City, Ohio, to Elmer and
Orra “Nettie” (Vosburg)
Beard. She married Albert
Snyder on October 20,
1933.
Ms. Snyder was a member
of the Sugar Ridge
Community Church, where
she was active with the
Bible study and taught Sunday
School.
She was a member of the
Wood County Senior Citizen
Center.
She enjoyed spending
her time with her family,
traveling to Amish Country
and visiting her cottage in
Michigan.
She is survived by her
daughter, Eileen Gore of
North Baltimore; sons,
Howard (Lois) Snyder of
Perrysburg, and Carl Snyder
of Umatilla, Florida;
grandchildren, Barbara (Ed)

He was born December 28,
1960, Springfield, Illinois,

Springer.
He enjoyed fishing, riding

Audrey Jean Harrold, 88,
of Perrysburg, died Monday,
April 1, 2013, at Hospice of
Northwest Ohio. She was
born on November 2, 1924,
to Chester and Beatrice
(Martin) Grant in Millbury,
Ohio. She married Robert
Harrold on May, 26, 1951,
in Toledo.
Ms. Harrold was a 1942
graduate of Lake High
School. She enjoyed knitting
and bowling at Interstate
Lanes as well as
crossword puzzles and playing
the organ. She was a
member of St. Mark’s
Lutheran Church in Bowling
Green.
She is survived by her
daughter, Ellen Carleski;
grandchildren, Jason
(Amanda) Carleski and
Robert (Cara LaCourse)
Carleski; nieces and
nephews, Robert (Dianne)

Hospice of Northwest
Ohio is offering evening
support sessions for adults
who are mourning the loss
of one or both parents.
This five-week group,
“After Your Parent Dies,”
will meet on Wednesdays,
May 8 to June 5, from 6 to
7:30 p.m., at Hospice of
Northwest Ohio’s Toledo
Center located at 800 South
Detroit Avenue.
Conducted by bereavement
counselors, the sessions
will help participants
understand the impact of the
loss of a parent on personal
identity, revisit childhood
losses and explore regret
versus relief.
The series is free and
open to any adult in the
community, whether or not
they have had a prior relationship
with Hospice of
Northwest Ohio. Pre-registration
is required.
