•CAROLYN MARIEA<br />

Carolyn W. Mariea died<br />

March 19, <strong>2013</strong>. She was <strong>the</strong><br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Harold<br />

and Sylvia Williams. She<br />

married Harold Mariea on<br />

June 29, 1957.<br />

Ms. Mariea graduated first<br />

in her class from Whitney<br />

High School. During her high<br />

school years, she worked at<br />

Enterprise Sheet Metal where<br />

she met Harold. She later<br />

worked at LaSalle’s and<br />

Tiedtke’s.<br />

She worked at Blade Printing<br />

until joining her husband<br />

in Germany for two years and<br />

working for <strong>the</strong> U.S. Government.<br />

When <strong>the</strong>y returned<br />

home, Mrs. Mariea worked<br />

for U.S. Standard Sign.<br />

After a 14-year break for<br />

family time, she worked at<br />

Executone as <strong>of</strong>fice manager<br />

and accountant. When her<br />

husband went into his own<br />

business in 1981 as president<br />

and owner <strong>of</strong> Waterville Sheet<br />

Metal, Mrs. Mariea ran <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

as vice president <strong>of</strong> administration<br />

and also did all <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> accounting work. Mr. and<br />

Mrs. Mariea both retired<br />

when he sold <strong>the</strong> business in<br />

December <strong>of</strong> 1997.<br />

Over <strong>the</strong> years, she took<br />

many advanced courses and<br />

classes <strong>of</strong> interest such as<br />

cake decorating, and she particularly<br />

enjoyed cooking, for<br />

which she was known for her<br />

delicious meals, homemade<br />

breads, and entertaining. Always<br />

interested in her daughters<br />

school activities, she was<br />

room mo<strong>the</strong>r, PTO <strong>of</strong>ficer,<br />

and served on <strong>the</strong> executive<br />

board <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Perrysburg</strong> Athletic<br />

Boosters. She attended<br />

every game, meet, or event in<br />

which her daughters took part,<br />

both home and across <strong>the</strong><br />

country.<br />

She was instrumental in<br />

starting Sheet Metal Local 6<br />

Auxiliary and establishing<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir local chapter, acting as<br />

its first president. She was involved<br />

in many community<br />

activities including Red Cross<br />

blood bank, church activities,<br />

and a Brownie and Girl Scout<br />

leader. She was on <strong>the</strong> Bowling<br />

Green State University’s<br />

parents advisory board and<br />

<strong>the</strong> originator <strong>of</strong> parents fact<br />

line.<br />

She is survived by her husband,<br />

Harold; daughter,<br />

Michele Mariea Martin and<br />

her husband, Neal, and children,<br />

Melissa, and Derek, and<br />

his wife Erin; daughter<br />

Cherise Mariea McCoy and<br />

her husband, Aaron, and <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

two sons, Connor and Gavin;<br />

also her bro<strong>the</strong>r, Paul (Judy)<br />

Williams; bro<strong>the</strong>r-in-law,<br />

Richard (Walling) Mariea;<br />

sister-in-law, Nancy Davidson,<br />

and many nieces and<br />

nephews.<br />

Memorial services and<br />

graveside were held privately<br />

with <strong>the</strong> family on March 23,<br />

with <strong>the</strong> assistance <strong>of</strong> Coyle<br />

Funeral Home.<br />

•BERTHA THOMAS<br />

Bertha M. Thomas, 91, a<br />

lifelong resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Perrysburg</strong>,<br />

died Saturday, March<br />

30, <strong>2013</strong>, at <strong>the</strong> Manor <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Perrysburg</strong>. She was born<br />

July 4, 1921, to Elmer and<br />

Josephine (Borck) Heilman.<br />

She graduated from <strong>Perrysburg</strong><br />

High School in 1939.<br />

She attended Di-Salle’s College<br />

in Toledo, <strong>the</strong>n moved to<br />

Washington D.C., for a short<br />

time where she worked at <strong>the</strong><br />

Library <strong>of</strong> Congress.<br />

She married Bob Thomas<br />

on <strong>April</strong> 27, 1942. They enjoyed<br />

traveling toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> country on<br />

road trips, especially to<br />

Florida and <strong>the</strong> Tetons in<br />

Jackson Hole, Wyoming.<br />

They spent many hours sailing<br />

toge<strong>the</strong>r on <strong>the</strong> Maumee<br />

River.<br />

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas<br />

were members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Perrysburg</strong><br />

Boat Club. She was<br />

honored to be <strong>the</strong> first<br />

woman secretary/treasurer<br />

for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Perrysburg</strong> Boat Club.<br />

Nearly five years ago,<br />

Mrs. Thomas moved to The<br />

Manor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Perrysburg</strong>, where<br />

she enjoyed making new<br />

friends and participating in<br />

many activities.<br />

She is survived by her<br />

Sugar Ridge, died Saturday<br />

March 30, <strong>2013</strong>.<br />

She was born in Jerry<br />

City, Ohio, to Elmer and<br />

Orra “Nettie” (Vosburg)<br />

Beard. She married Albert<br />

Snyder on October 20,<br />

1933.<br />

Ms. Snyder was a member<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sugar Ridge<br />

Community Church, where<br />

she was active with <strong>the</strong><br />

Bible study and taught Sunday<br />

School.<br />

She was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Wood County Senior Citizen<br />

Center.<br />

She enjoyed spending<br />

her time with her family,<br />

traveling to Amish Country<br />

and visiting her cottage in<br />

Michigan.<br />

She is survived by her<br />

daughter, Eileen Gore <strong>of</strong><br />

North Baltimore; sons,<br />

Howard (Lois) Snyder <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Perrysburg</strong>, and Carl Snyder<br />

<strong>of</strong> Umatilla, Florida;<br />

grandchildren, Barbara (Ed)<br />

Wymer, Brenda (Steven)<br />

Flick, Willard (Jodi) Gore,<br />

Beth (Brian) Kreais, Cheryl<br />

(Romain) Destatte, Cathy<br />

(Robert) Allen, Carol Bowers,<br />

death by her husband, Albert,<br />

1960, Springfield, Illinois,<br />

to Robert Hesse and Edith<br />

Springer.<br />

He enjoyed fishing, riding<br />

his Harley, and hunting<br />

deer.<br />

He is survived by his<br />

wife, Judy; sons, Bill Jr. and<br />

Brandon; mo<strong>the</strong>r; daughterin-law,<br />

Becca, and seven<br />

bro<strong>the</strong>rs and sisters.<br />

Audrey Jean Harrold, 88,<br />

Northwest Ohio. She was<br />

born on November 2, 1924,<br />

to Chester and Beatrice<br />

(Martin) Grant in Millbury,<br />

Ohio. She married Robert<br />

Harrold on May, 26, 1951,<br />

in Toledo.<br />

Ms. Harrold was a 1942<br />

graduate <strong>of</strong> Lake High<br />

School. She enjoyed knitting<br />

and bowling at Interstate<br />

Lanes as well as<br />

crossword puzzles and playing<br />

<strong>the</strong> organ. She was a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> St. Mark’s<br />

Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Church in Bowling<br />

Green.<br />

She is survived by her<br />

daughter, Ellen Carleski;<br />

grandchildren, Jason<br />

(Amanda) Carleski and<br />

Robert (Cara LaCourse)<br />

Carleski; nieces and<br />

nephews, Robert (Dianne)<br />

This five-week group,<br />

“After Your Parent Dies,”<br />

will meet on Wednesdays,<br />

May 8 to June 5, from 6 to<br />

7:30 p.m., at Hospice <strong>of</strong><br />

Northwest Ohio’s Toledo<br />

Center located at 800 South<br />

Detroit Avenue.<br />

Conducted by bereavement<br />

counselors, <strong>the</strong> sessions<br />

will help participants<br />

understand <strong>the</strong> impact <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

loss <strong>of</strong> a parent on personal<br />

identity, revisit childhood<br />

losses and explore regret<br />

versus relief.<br />
