Would You Like a Second Opinion?
Are you unsure of what to do?
“Buy, Sell, Hold,” are words investors hear constantly regarding their
portfolios. Successful investing is not always about how much cash
you have or if you should buy, sell or hold. It’s about quality of
assets, time horizons, financial needs, cash flow needs, risk tolerance
and many other issues.
Do you understand your exposure to various sectors of the market and
how these sectors correlate to each other? Sector weightings, asset
allocation, management style and other issues significantly contribute
to the volatility of your portfolio.
We believe it is important to understand what your risks are and how
they relate to your financial goals. A detailed analysis of your
portfolio will allow us to give you a valuable “Second Opinion.”
If you would like to take advantage of our no-obligation “Second Opinion
Service,”
please call 419-873-1400 to schedule an appointment.
March to the Rapids” on
7:30 p.m., at the Fort Meigs
visitor center in Perrysburg.
The presentation is free and
open to the public. Doors
open at 7 p.m.
The War of 1812 started
poorly for American forces
in the Western Theater of
War. What was thought to
be a quick march into Upper
Canada resulted in a major
defeat with the surrender of
Detroit in the summer of
1812.
After the fall of Detroit,
a new Army of the North-
west was organized and
William Henry Harrison
placed in its command. Har-
rison was determined to
build a large fortification at
the foot of the Maumee
River rapids in anticipation
of an eventual invasion into
Canada, but to do this; his
forces would have to con-
verge from three cardinal di-
rections in the middle of a
rough Ohio winter.
Join Mr. Land as he ex-
plores the hardships these
soldiers endured on their
march to the rapids to build
what would become the
largest woodened walled
fort in the country.
Mr. Land is a long time
student, researcher and lec-
turer on the War of 1812.
His expertise includes the
history of Fort Meigs as
well as the role of artillery
in the War of 1812.
In addition to his full
time position with Davis
Besse Nuclear Power Sta-
tion, he is an historical in-
terpreter at Fort Meigs and
enjoys participating in War
of 1812 reenactments
throughout the United
States and Canada.
The program is spon-
sored by the Anderton Bent-
ley Fund in memory of
Christopher Perky, who
served at Fort Meigs during
the War of 1812.
payers with their 2012
federal, Ohio, and school
district income tax returns.
This service is sponsored by
AARP and is hosted by Way
Public Library. All returns
are filed electronically.
The volunteers’ mission
is to provide high-quality,
free income tax assistance
and form preparation to low-
and moderate-income tax-
payers, with special attention
to those age 60 and older.
AARP membership is not re-
quired. Nationwide, approx-
imately 36,000 volunteers
helped more than 2.5 million
customers last season at
more than 6,000 sites. Most
customers had household in-
60 or older.
Area residents are en-
couraged to consider volun-
teering for the 2012 tax
season. Previous experience
with tax preparation services
is not necessary.
Volunteers need to com-
mit to training in January,
pass a competency test, and
are expected to volunteer for
at least four hours each week
during the tax season (Febru-
ary 4 through April 11). In-
terested persons can send an
e-mail to Gene Palmer at
gpalmer@bex.net or visit the
AARP Web site at
Annual Girl Scouts cookie, snack bar sales begin
Girl Scouts of Western
Ohio are now taking orders
for their annual cookie sales. A
total of six Girl Scout cookies
are offered: Thin Mints,
Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils,
Do-Si-Dos and Savannah
Smiles. New packaging for the
cookie boxes highlight the
skills girls learn through the
Girl Scout Cookie Program.
Two new items have been
added to this year’s product
line. Girl Scout snack bars
made of hearty rolled oats,
crispy cereal flakes and chewy
granola with a chocolate
dipped bottom and chocolate
drizzle for the top are available
in Double Dutch and Tagalong
varieties. The snack bars are
individually wrapped in pack-
ages of five. Girls from Girl
Scouts of Western Ohio were
used in marketing the Double
Dutch snack bar.
For more than 80 years,
Girl Scouts, with the support
of their families, have helped
ensure the success of the Girl
Scout Cookie Program.
“From its earliest begin-
nings to its current popularity,
the sale of cookies has helped
Girl Scouts have fun and de-
velop valuable life skills such
as critical thinking, problem
solving and team work,” said
Roni Luckenbill, Girl Scouts
of Western Ohio CEO.
There also is still time to be
a Girl Scout this year. Girls
wishing to join are welcome
and can participate in the Girl
Scout Cookie Program.
Girl Scout cookies and
snack bars are made by Little
Brownie Bakers.
The cookies are available
in the six flavors and sell for
$3.50 a box. The snack bars
sell for $4 a box.
Caldecott
Read-In event,
potluck Jan. 19
The Toledo-Lucas County
Public Library invites adult
patrons to the annual Calde-
cott Read-In to see the best
picture books for children all
in one place. This annual li-
brary event is now in its 39th
year.
Those attending may help
the library choose the local
Caldecott winner while com-
paring favorites and meeting
others interested in book de-
sign and stories for children
beginning at 9 a.m. on Satur-
day, January 19 in the Hunt-
ington Meeting Room at Main
Library, 325 Michigan Street.
The actual Caldecott win-
ner will be announced later
this month at the American Li-
brary Association (ALA) mid-
winter conference in Seattle.
The Caldecott Medal was
named in honor of nineteenth-
century English illustrator
Randolph Caldecott. The
ALA has awarded the Medal
annually since 1938 through
its Association for Library
Service to Children to the
artist of the most distinguished
American picture book for
children.
A potluck lunch is planned.
Participants are encouraged to
bring a salad or dessert to
share, and your own table
service. Beverages will be
provided.
As severe winter weather
spreads across the country,
heavy snow can put a strain a
homeowner’s roof, leaving the
property at risk of costly dam-
age.
Safely remove snow from a
roof by using the following
guidance from the Insurance
Institute for Business & Home
Safety (IBHS).
Snow removal equipment
meant for pavement should
never be used on the roof since
they can damage the roof cover
system.
Stay grounded. Use a snow
rake with a long extension arm
that will allow you to remove
the snow while standing on the
ground.
prevent roof damage during se-
vere winter weather at
