Covering more than 40 square miles and serving a population of more than 15,000, Perrysburg Township is one of the largest and most populated townships in
Wood County. The Board of Trustees takes great pride in the diverse township and the progress that has continued in the region this year.
Retail development remains strong with several businesses moving into the township, including Hobby Lobby, which moved into the BestBuy/Bed, Bath and Beyond
plaza last fall.
Industrially, the township benefits from businesses in the Ampoint and Cedar Park industrial complexes. The $90 million FedEx ground shipping facility is up and
running and First Solar is completing a major expansion of its plant.
The township’s agricultural base also remains strong, and township land is among the most fertile land in northwest Ohio. Residential development, while slow,
is beginning to pick up, with houses being constructed in several areas of the township.
But for the trustees, one of the greatest sources of pride over the past year has been the opening of the new fire station and renovated police building on Lime City
Road. The $5 million project is expected to address the needs of the community now and in the future. Growth in the region enabled the trustees to budget for the facility
at no additional cost to taxpayers.
A state-of-the-art facility, the 35,000-square-foot station features a main entry with a security door, visitor’s telephone in the lobby, a fire bay with 12 garage doors,
fill spots to replenish tankers with water, a hazardous materials room with washdown area, hose hookup, a three-story tall training tower, men’s and women’s locker
rooms and separate bedrooms, kitchen/laundry room, exercise facility, dayroom, administration offices, storage/records room and conference area.
The police building also underwent renovations including the addition of a garage in front of the police station, which serves as a secured prisoner intake area.
Both the police and fire departments continue to be busy responding to numerous calls and offering assistance to neighboring communities, especially recently
after recent storms devastated parts of northwest Ohio.
The township’s maintenance department is busy year-round with crack sealing roads, mowing, tree trimming, vehicle maintenance, performing drainage and ditch
bank repair, maintaining buildings and equipment, conducting storm basin and tile cleaning, and removing road kill.
This time of the year is particularly fast-paced for the Recreation Department as baseball season is in full swing. The department maintains ball fields and park facilities
and also is in charge of the monthly food giveaway and recycling programs, which continue to thrive.
Another significant project undertaken by the township over the past year has been the implementation of a Master Plan for zoning. Begun last year, the plan was
developed with the help of citizens who provided input on how they would like their township to be developed in the future. The ideas were incorporated into a draft
created by Beckett & Raeder, and after a public hearing in June, the trustees adopted the master plan.
For more information or to view the plan visit the township Web site at www.perrysburgtownship.us. The trustees also extend an open invitation to the community
to visit the township facilities and see what resources the area has to offer.
