Page 36 Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek (LVWC), a non-profit organization, is a joint venture of Lutheran Homes Society and St. Luke’s Hospital, offering a health care continuum that has served thousands of seniors since its construction in 1997. Built on the tradition of faith and trust, Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek’s retirement community consists of independent living, assisted living, skilled and long-term care, rehabilitation, and short-term respite care, all built on 46 wooded acres nestled in beautiful Holland, Ohio. LVWC’s Creekside independent living offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom residences consisting of full kitchens including major appliances, private balconies or patios, a building security system, water hook-ups for washers and dryers inside each unit, a heated and lit underground parking garage, an optional evening meal plan, and a multitude of social activities and events to promote fellowship and friendship. LVWC’s assisted living consists of 79 private one-and two-bedroom apartments featuring separate bedroom, bath, living room, kitchenette and dining room. Three hot, nutritious meals, weekly housekeeping and laundry service, showers, cable, and telephone are some of the standard services included in the monthly rent, along with personal assistance provided by our dedicated and professional staff. Residents in assisted living enjoy the lifestyle benefits of independent living with a special emphasis on the changing needs of each individual. LVWC’s 135-bed care center offers shortterm skilled and long-term nursing care. All rooms are private rooms and are Medicare/Medicaid approved. Exciting changes in the way care is delivered and the physical setting in which our nursing care/rehab elders live are under way. This change called “person centered care” is sweeping the country and Lutheran Village is one of the first in Northwest Ohio to implement this concept into an existing building. The goal of this change is to make our nursing care more of a home-like setting–with the individual dictating his or her daily routine. The residents will make their own decisions about activities of daily living. Physically, the actual living environment is changing to accommodate this individualized lifestyle. Nurses stations are being eliminated, great room/lounging areas are being added. Dining rooms will be converted to café-style dining open 12 hours a day, a family kitchenette, laundry facilities, common areas will be remodeled to a lodge-like appearance, and hallways will be transformed into neighborhoods where permanent caregivers will be assisting elders in meal planning and activities in the neighborhoods they serve. The changes in both care delivery and structure help to fulfill our mission to honor each individual’s independence, dignity, rights and self respect. LVWC offers short-term respite care in our assisted living for those caregivers who are unable to give care to their loved ones for a short period of time. A quick drive past Poco’s Playhouse doggy daycare will show even more furry friends running and playing with toys, tunnels, sandboxes, slides, and swimming pools. Member in good standing of both the Better Business Bureau and the Pet Care Services Association, this fully-supervised off-leash dog daycare facility expanded its staff and services to better accommodate the needs of local pet families. Poco’s Playhouse is now Perrysburg’s stop for human grade and grain-free natural pet foods and treats. Providing the community with only the highest quality pet foods, Poco’s now carries dog and cat food brands such as EVO, Orijen, Innova, California Natural, and Free-Range dog chews and treats. Another major development at Poco’s Playhouse is the addition of Saturday hours. As of June 2009, pet parents can get away for the afternoon and get your four-legged friend some exercise, or just pop in for a bag of food on a weekend. Playhouse doors are open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Though you’ll still see Founder/Owner/Alpha Nikki Badman and her son Rich working and playing with the dogs, you’ll also notice some new staff members entertaining the dogs. Pack leaders Rachel Ramlawi and Mary Torio are still there working as hard as ever. New to the staff, though not new to the Playhouse, are Pooch Patrol members Nonie Booher and Jamie Ramlawi. Poco’s staff are trained in canine pack behavior, humane handling, dog health, and proper nutrition. Even in the tough economic climate Poco’s Playhouse has shown steady growth, and has outgrown its facility and services. Affiliated with the Lutheran church, LVWC welcomes residents of all faiths. Our full-time chaplain and beautiful chapel provide access to religious services on a weekly basis and/or as needed. Ministers, priests and other religious advisors are welcome to our campus at all times. LVWC offers a complete continuum of services, including physical, speech, and occupational therapies serving all residents living on the LVWC campus. Their medical director, a board certified gerontologist, and nurse practitioner also have offices on the campus. Additionally, St. Luke’s provides diagnostic services and laboratory services, as well as in-service training to our staff.
