2010 marks the 11 year anniversary for Drs.
Michael and Julie Zysik and the fifth year at
their new location, 850 Commerce Drive in Perrysburg.
“This year has already seen a lot of
changes for us,” says Dr. Michael Zysik. With
the addition of OCT technology, or Optical Coherence
Tomography, the doctors are able to
identify retinal diseases much sooner than ever
before possible by taking what is similar to a
CT scan of the back of the eyes. Why is this so
important? “With the aging population, we are
seeing more and more patients with age related
eye diseases, such as macular degeneration and
glaucoma,” said Dr. Michael Zysik. “Diabetic
retinopathy, another leading cause of blindness,
is also more effectively managed and treated
with this technology, along with many other
retinal disorders that are sight threatening. With
glaucoma in particular, this technology allows
us to diagnose the disease years earlier than previously
possible and therefore treat the disease
sooner, preserving the patient’s vision well before
the disease has caused permanent and irreversible
optic nerve damage.” Glaucoma is
often referred to as the silent thief of vision,
since it causes blindness if left undiagnosed and
untreated. It usually produces no symptoms or
vision problems unless it is very advanced.
“This added technology allows us to be better
doctors, preserving our patient’s vision and
quality of life” Dr. Michael Zysik continued.

treat a wide variety medical eye conditions,”
added Dr. Michael Zysik. “They are also the
first line of defense in detecting not only diseases
of the eye, but diseases of the body
through dilated eye examinations and offering
patients access to these new technologies.”
The doctors also provide routine eye examinations
for all ages and fit all types of contact
lenses. One of the more unique services they
provide is the customized fitting of orthokeratology
contact lenses. These lenses are FDA approved
for nighttime wear. When removed in
the morning, patients enjoy 20/20 vision for as
many as two to six days without having to sleep
in the lenses again. Truly as close to LASIK
laser vision correction as possible without the
surgery, and it is even approved for children as
young as 8 years old, or for adults who do not
wish to get LASIK but want freedom from
glasses and traditional contact lenses. And if
