Projection systems with standard
video projectors
In recent years, digital projection
solutions for a wide variety of applications
have undergone rapid advancement.
Digital projectors used for dome
projection must meet high standards
of definition, contrast and brightness.
Carl Zeiss responds to this challenge
with SPACEGATE Nova – a range of
multichannel projection solutions for
fulldome applications, based on diverse
commercially available video projectors.
Every one of them has been tested for
suitability for dome projection.
We can employ a broad spectrum of
possible configurations to optimally
meet individual requirements, allowing
for given facts like theater layout
or architecture. Affording freedom of
configuration, SPACEGATE Nova can be
adapted to all feasible dome sizes.
Carl Zeiss has no influence, though, on
the avail ability of particular projectors
from third-party suppliers, nor on the
development of new models and series
by them.
Fulldome video projection and
brilliant stars – a fine match
For simulating a brilliantly starred sky,
SPACEGATE Nova can be combined
with one of the Carl Zeiss range of
optical-mechanical projectors.
Automatic projector calibration
On request, Carl Zeiss fulldome systems
come with camera-based projector calibration,
a facility for the fully automatic
adjustment of the image geometries
of all channels. For further information,
see our separate data sheet.

SPACEGATE Nova fulldome projection for
small domes
For small domes equipped with an optical-mechanical
planetarium projector (e.g., SKYMASTER
ZKP 4), we recommend SPACEGATE Nova with
two F32 projectors. Projection is from the dome
center. The projectors will be installed close to the
planetarium projector.
The F32 series of DLP projectors made by projectiondesign
have been developed especially for
graphically demanding tasks such as multichannel
visualizations on dome surfaces. These projectors
provide a saturated image rich in contrast.
SPACEGATE Nova fulldome projection for
medium-sized domes
For medium-sized domes there are several configuration
options. For example, six F32 projectors
installed at the dome periphery are sufficient for
domes up to 18 m in diameter. Four projectors
deliver the 360° panorama, the other two project
the zenith field.
SPACEGATE Nova fulldome projection for
medium-sized to large domes
Two SRX projectors made by Sony can be employed
in medium-sized and large domes. The
projectors are installed at the periphery, spaced
180° apart.
Either projector delivers more than 8 million
pixels. The high-grade projection technology
incorporated in the projector calls for a projection
lens of matching optical quality. DIGIGON 115,
a wide-angle lens developed by Carl Zeiss for
SRX projectors is particularly designed for dome
projection.
SPACEGATE Nova projection for large domes
A number of configuration options are available
from Carl Zeiss for large domes. For example, a
23-m dome can be equipped with ten F32 projectors,
with six of them covering the panorama and
four others the zenith field.
