Trends in retail lighting 

In the world of retail lighting we are currently witnessing a number 

of trends: the merging of different lighting systems; maximum 

integration into the shop architecture; minimalist detailing combined 

with smooth materials and finishes; open spaces and enhancement of 

the architectural grid… All of these trends are converging to create a 

more ‘human’, more natural ambience for shoppers. 

The Daruma concept 

Until now, combined lighting effects could only be achieved by 

installing a number of different lighting systems – compact and linear 

systems, and spots, for example. Philips' Daruma concept changes all 

that, merging multiple lighting and architectural design to bring retail 

and office environments to life. 

The central element of the system is the modular recessed grid, 

which gives creative specifiers the freedom to apply dedicated 

multiple lighting solutions. It comes in two sizes for different interiors 

and application heights: the M20 for low ceilings, and the M30 for 

normal tiled and plaster ceilings. 

Beyond lighting Versatile and adaptable, Daruma


The Daruma 30 is ideally suited to mid-end fashion stores, 

drugstores, petrol station shops and white goods and electronics 

shops.The Daruma 20 can help shape the ambience in high-end 

fashion outlets, boutiques and department stores. 

Crucially, Daruma is future-proof: it is easily adaptable to the 

changing dynamics of the shop floor or displays and can 

accommodate the latest lamp/optic innovations. 

Daruma is eminently suitable not only for shop lighting, but also 

for offices, lobbies, corridors, open-plan areas and public areas.

Cut-out:

Safety suspension points for chain, cable or threaded rod. 

Cabling: first connect gear to mains (3 poles connector with looping 

in/out facilities for discharge and 2 poles screw connector for 

HAL-R111). Then plug gear connector to luminaire, insert luminaire 

in ceiling and pull out the spring release rods. 

Safety distance: 0.8 m except 1.3 m for HAL-R111 in CBX500/502. 

Maintenance: remove front face to replace SDW-T, CDM-T and 

HAL-R111 lamps, unscrew CDM-R.

lighting performance while creating a stylish modern appearance.They 

must also be quick and easy to install; today’s economics demand it. 

That’s why Philips has developed the Spaciolita-3 range to specifically 

offer a balanced combination of creative opportunities and ease of 

installation functionality. 

With Spaciolita-3 almost any idea can be realised with ease. 

All the different modules use the same style of connection elements so 

that the required structure is quickly achieved without difficulty. 

Moreover, all modules can be adjusted through 330º, to create direct, 

indirect and/or accent lighting effects.

Spaciolita-3 TPX100 

Spatial lighting system with a tubular shape. For making architectural 

lighting structures, with all possible directions and angles. All 

elements can be connected together thanks to the modularity of 

the system. 

The modules are free to adjust up to 330°. Combining direct 

lighting, indirect lighting and wall lighting in the same lighting 

structure is feasible. 

Options include general lighting with fluorescent tubes, comfortable 

task lighting with indirect light distribution, and accent lighting with 

extra-low-voltage or 230 V projectors.

The distinctive oval-shaped modules of the Ovalita range create an 

elegant yet highly function lighting solution in places such as shops, 

offices, and public areas. Ovalita modules are available in black, white or 

metal grey and house either one or two lamps. The modules are easy 

to design with and install, offering a choice of prismatic diffusers or 

louvres. Also, a selection of adjustable mounting units, wall fixing 

accessories and coupling elements to ensure that the exact lumen 

package is delivered across all areas of a room - even in cases of 

irregular ceiling heights.

Spatial lighting system with a flat oval shape. All elements can be 

connected together thanks to the modularity of the system. 

The Ovalita-2 modules can be equipped with louvres or prismatic 

diffusers. With wall-fixing accessories, lighting corniches can be 

designed providing a direct or an indirect light distribution. 

Due to its straightforward building design, the principle of fishplates 

and the modularity for suspending the lighting structures, the 

Ovalita-2 system is easy to design and install even in the case of 

irregular ceilings.
