Cross Country … The Forgotten Fall Sport

Football is the sport our entire nation watches every
year with extreme devotion and loyalty to their team. At
this time of the year it is a topic that many students end up
talking about, spending time picking over the last game,
saying what went wrong and what went right. However at
this time of the year football is not the only sport to be
played, there is also one other sporting event that involves
a lot of running.
Yes, I am talking about cross country, the sport where
stamina and endurance are the deciding factors of every
little match.
Sure at this time of the year no one pays much attention
to any other sport besides football, but that does not mean that cross
country does not exist. Even though they get little recognition they still run
out on that track, running until they can no longer run.
Though they are not a popular topic among the students these runners
do not stop what they are doing, they just run harder and harder. They are
not in this for the glory, just for the sport itself. This time of the year is football
season, but cross country is right there with them. Even though they are
not the most popular sport they are still out there practicing.
Student Council Holds 3rd Meeting

On August 31, 2011 Student Council held their third meeting of the
new school year. The first thing we did was get the minutes read to us by
Trevor Woods. After all that was done, we talked a little about the Win-
Win Week shirts.
Then we got to sign up to be on a Homecoming committee and the
committees are as follows: Spirit Week- chaired by Kena Pechacek, Fundraising-
chaired by Adam Masters, Banner- is co chaired by Blair Keppel
and Hunter Bonham, Decorations- is co chaired by Eric Ogilvie and Shalyn
Layn , Parade- is chaired by Ashton Emenger. Those committees could sure
use all the help they can get so please feel free to join a committee and become
a part in what the school makes happen.
After all that we got to talk about the military care packages that we
will be sending overseas, so don‟t forget to give Mrs. Kadavy the name and
location of a troop you would like to see get a care package.
Then we talked about how we could encourage school spirit and we
came up with the (super fan) - that chair is Grant Newton. Then they talked
briefly about the student of the month recognition. Then we talked about
how the spring district convention will be held here again. Then we went
on to talk about how we could possibly have a community service project.
The meeting was over at approximately 8:10 A.M.

Freshmen Have Feelings Too

Juniors despise them, Sophomores are glad not to be
them, and Seniors refuse to even acknowledge their existence.
You guessed it, freshmen. In the eyes of many they are
the bottom of the food chain, insignificant little germs
whose only purpose is to be scraped off the bottom of everyone
else‟s shoes with the rake of oppression.
Well I say, “NO!” No to this unnecessary display of
brutality towards the innocent! Is it friendly “Welcome-to-
High-School teasing”? Or is it a barrage of mean, hurtful
words and actions intended to humiliate freshmen until
they are reduced to nothing more than lifeless ghosts who
out of fear of being made fun of will not even speak up and
be heard.
If you ask them, upperclassmen will tell you its normal,
that it‟s just something all freshmen have to go
through, or that they do it because it was done to them. It‟s
not normal. Any human being can see that. We can stop it
easily. Think about it, if you treat this year‟s freshmen
fairly and show them compassion, they will remember, and
by the time they‟re juniors and seniors this whole pick on
freshmen thing could be long gone.
So the next time you see an incompetent freshman
wondering through the hall desperately searching for their
fourth hour class, you could tell them to get a brain because
it‟s the third week of school and they should know which
classroom to be in by now because unless you‟re a stupid
freshman it‟s not that hard to figure out. Or you could say
with a smile, “Right over there bro, don‟t be late.” You
decide which is the right thing to do.
Burlesque

The movie Burlesque is a movie that is about a girl named
Ali who escapes her life that is burdened with hardships to
fulfill her dream of becoming a singing actress which takes her
to Los Angeles, California. She then discovers the burlesque
lounge were at first she becomes a cocktail waitress in hopes of
performing on the stage one day.
Her day comes sooner then expected when she becomes
friends with the dancers. She then falls in love with the bartender
Jack and what an adventure that turned out to be! With
the help of the witty stage manager Tess, Ali soon finds her
self going from bar tender to stage performer.
The club at the time wasn't doing so well until our heroin
came along and miraculously restores the club to its hay days.
With her incredible voice she makes people want to come back
for another performance.
She is the one that keeps the club from closing because at
first Tess didn‟t know how she was going to pay the bills but
when Ali brings the club a lot of income she learns she can pay
the bills with that money. She is astounded that she gets to
keep the club all thanks to a girl who started out as nothing and
then became something.
Her voice is then wanted by so many more people but Ali
chooses to stay right were she is at.
